    Default Weird, unexplaineble problem!

Hello everybody, glad to chech in!

My name is Markus, and im a 25 year old dude from Norway

I installed NTW yesterday and my problem is this:

Whatever graphic-mode i run (low, med, high, very high) the game starts to "studder" in battles and campaign map after 5 minutes and it lasts about 2-3 minutes then its all good again...

    My specs are:

    AMD Athlon X2 2.8 GHZ
    Corsair dominator 6GB pc 6400
    Intel 80 GB SSD
    XFX Geforce 8800 GTS
    550 W PSU
    Windows 7 64bit.

    YES all drivers are updated.

The weird thing is that i`we tried running the low mode and the same thing happens there.. so there shouldnt be anything wrong with my hardware setup considering that the game runs perfectly in very high setup...but like i said, regardless of settings the game starts to become very slow after usually about 4-6 minutes and lasts about 2-3 minutes then its fine again.

Earlier today when it started to slow down, it went back to the loading screen and jumped back in the after a few seconds...now it doesnt do that, it only becomes slower for a periode of time

    Please help

btw; glad to finally join the forum, cause i`we been sneaking here for a couple of years if i remember correct!

    Cheers!

    Welcome.

Have you installed directx 9.0c, C++ 2005 SP1, and .Net 4 that Win 7 knows nothing about?

This game knows nothing of dx10 or dx11. The code is too old as in still XP.

    Try installing http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en,
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en, and
    http://www.microsoft.com/net/Download.aspx.

You may need to do this to do it. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636

Ok, i can see on the NTW box that it uses directx 9.0c...and i currently have 11...what would the major setbacks be concering the rest of my computer/use if i change it ?

Directx 9 runs along with directx 11. You don't have to do anything with dx11. I have had both on my system since Win 7 was released.

There is no dx9 for Win 7 per se. We install it to get the old XP games, and all Total War games including Empire and Napoleon are XP, to work.

It will NOT overwrite, replace or otherwise fool with dx11. Microsoft won't tell you this.

The link I gave you is the same one I used and I have Win7 Pro 64bit.

it did not help installing DX9C It could be a heat problem on my GPU...but, then it would be more severe on very high mode and not happen in low res mode...thats why its so weird :/

GPU heat can happen on all. I have Speedfan on mine and I can watch watch what Medieval2 does to my 9800GT. They can get hot fast.

Run Speedfan to check your temps and voltages. Your power supply could be on the way out, too.

Well, if it was GPU overheating then i guess the game would be slow over the entire gaming session..not just 5 minutes and then ok...and the PSU was bought 3 days ago and installed...

Update: ETW does sometimes jump to loadscreen for a couple of seconds...BUT no loss in performance as found in NTW...man i am so ing tired of not beeing able to concentrate while playing because i know its only a matter of time before that concentration gets broken by load screen or loss of performance...grrr

Your biggest now may well be no space on your ssd for a swapfile or room to write to disc.

Trying to download another driver for my geforce card as there sometimes also are some blackouts when at the desktop saying that the drivers stopped working but windows have recovered...?

How much free disc space on the ssd before downloading ETW and Ntw?

just deleted ETW and there is 25 GB of free space. Tried changing to an older nvidia driver...no difference..!

irishron, i mean come on...the game runs sweet, BUT after about 5 minutes it slows down and it is VERY slow for 2-3 minutes THEN suddenly, sweet again..

it cannot be overheated gpu since that would not heal it self after 2 minutes...
it cannot be the hardware since i am very much able to run everything at max..
it cannot be drivers since i installed w7 2 days ago and had all the updates etc..

then what CAN it be ?
