To kill the generals, or not to

Every battle I command I always go for the kill just to do away the enemy generals. I've seen alot talk of people using diplomats to bribe the generals to their side however.
Obviously with Faction Leaders/Heirs you probaly want to just do away with them, but I'd like to hear from others how they deal with the enemy Generals in their games.

it depends on how I feel about the faction.. I usually bribe Hellenic generals and just kill barbarian ones

I don't really feel any compassion or mercy for RTW generals, but for M2TW ones, I feel a sense of honor and pride there.

Two totally different styles for me.

Kill them, kill them all. No difference between Hellenic and Barbarians, they are all pixel enemies. Waste of denarii to bribe them most of the time.

I agree. IMO there are more important and more useful things to spend your money on than bribes. I don't even use assassins anymore, give an extra unit of cav instead and I'll level it up and get more use of it than an assassin who has to be trained for a while before getting a decent chance to kill enemy generals.

Bribery is too costly, I only do that when I have a lot of money and only to save time.

I train assassins to kill the others' assassins, spies, diplomats... you know, remove the clutter on the screen.

Not to kill the generals, those always kamikaze their way into my troops anyway.

If a general can be bribed, he can't be trusted. Thus, he shall be killed.

I actually enjoy seeing them die, especially if that general has previously defeated me by me getting a "crushing defeat" autoresolve in a battle he couldn't possibly win.

I always kill enemy generals, too costly to bribe and your own generals are better most of the time.

Not only do I try to kill them, but I try real hard to kill them with my general. Romans loved individual pitched combat (many of their military decorations were for such). So I try to recreate that in my games.

Hah.. their generals tend to charge head-on into my Triarii, and it's pretty fun watching that play out.
Except for those god damned numidian generals. Armies consisting of 50% or more missile cavalry units..... The bane of my existence.

Look at the stats though first. It might be useful to bribe enemy generals if you're running out of your own youngsters.

Which is why there are times when I'm playing the Julii and my Faction Heir has no surname and my Faction Leader has a surname of Scipio... LOL
