Default Baby girls’ heart beats not in chest but abdomen

Found this pretty disturbing. I wonder if they would be able to pull of such a surgery, though it does cost a considerable amount of money which this poor family doesn't have. Don't want to sound cruel but I wonder why the mother didn't abort the child at the early stage, given the child had such a condition. My heart goes out (no pun intended) to the child and mother

Armenian baby girls’ heart beats not in chest but abdomen: Special report (video)
    October 21, 2010 | 23:31

The fate of a one and half year old Armenian girls is hanging by a thread. Little Versava has a rare heart defect, her heart beats not inside her chest but her abdomen. Her heart is not covered up and is practically under the skin. A physical impact might be fatal.
NEWS.am Correspondent talked with Dariya Mkhitaryants, the mother of a girl who described the seriousness of baby’s condition.
“Back in September we went to Moscow, but we were refused the surgical treatment, explaining that the girl was inoperable at that state. Doctors prescribed a treatment for 6 months”, she said, adding that the medication is very expensive. “The course of a treatment is about 200,000 rubles (over $ 6,500) per month, but we do not have that kind of money”- said Dariya. After 6 months, in March 2011, a girl will get a free surgery. According to his mother, even in case of successful medical treatment doctors did not give any guarantees. “We were promised that if all goes well, the girl will be able to develop normally. She is still a buoyant, cheerful, clever child” said Dariya.

Versheva’s parents are divorced. The girl’s father, Arthur Mkhitaryants suffers from a drug addiction. Dariya Mhitaryants refused to comment on this aspect of their life, only saying that “he loves her, but as can you realize he is not in a position to help.” Arthur and Darius Mkhitaryants have been married for 4 years.

Coolio..... so no perichardium.... that should have made the girl heartbeats somewhat...... difficult. but it seems to not have affected her....

are lungs affected? Is the diapraghm normal? What intrigues me is why in the hell it went to the right....

    Why??
Everything has its beginnings, but it doesn't start at one. It starts long before that- in chaos. The world is born from zero. The moment the world becomes one, is the moment the world springs to life. One becomes two, two becomes ten, ten becomes one hundred. Taking it all back to one solves nothing. So long as zero remains, one will eventually grow to one hundred again. - Big Boss

The child is going to have a very tough life, given she is able to live significantly beyond. Why subject a child to this kind of defect? It's more cruel in my opinion to have a child knowing it has a some horrible defect rather than end the life of the child when he or she is still pre-mature.

I think no matter how life can be hard for a defected person, anyone should live life. I agree that this child don't need to have a defect but what can we do. Hellen Keller, she was born deaf and she bacame successful. People born with defects are no problem, it is other people who are the complex of their lives.

I have a friend and before he was born, many doctors said that he will likely to be born with 'complcations'. His mother refused and when he was finally born he is, well, normal. Not to mention he is really smart!

With this comment, yes, I am anti-abortionist but I am open minded if there are circumstances. Look, I do not want to even get deeper into the argument since this is a Athenaeum not Ethos section.

Yes, but deaf people don't have their vital organs right underneath their skin. One punch or even a minor blow could make the hart asplode. That girl won't be living a life, she'll be living a walking time bomb.

I can't for the love of me understand why they wouldn't have decided to cancel the pregnancy if they knew about this disease, but I do understand how hard it's going to be for that little girl. Good luck to the family, can't immagine how hard it's going to be to raise such a child.

No, she just doesnt have perichardium, but yes simply put her heart is just under her skin, and somehow her diapraghm muscle "allowed" the heart to move to her right.

Thats why I wonder if the lungs are normal, or misplaced or something...

    Like I said: fascinating

@ Lord Mov: Did the mother actually know that her baby is going to turn out that way? I mean if they're poor, that means the mom probably wouldn't have had the same access to check-ups and tests that we do. An abortion may not have been possible. It's tragic that someone's little girl would turn out that way.

Did the parents/mother see the girl in the ultrasound?
I am pretty sure a good doctor should have been able to see that there was a heart defect.

But it doesn't matter now, what matter is that the girl be able to live the best life that she can. And I hope somehow her family will find a way to pay the operation

Both male and female walruses have tusks and have been observed using these overgrown teeth to help pull themselves out of the water.

The mustached and long-tusked walrus is most often found near the Arctic Circle, lying on the ice with hundreds of companions. These marine mammals are extremely sociable, prone to loudly bellowing and snorting at one another, but are aggressive during mating season. With wrinkled brown and pink hides, walruses are distinguished by their long white tusks, grizzly whiskers, flat flipper, and bodies full of blubber.
Walruses use their iconic long tusks for a variety of reasons, each of which makes their lives in the Arctic a bit easier. They use them to haul their enormous bodies out of frigid waters, thus their "tooth-walking" label, and to break breathing holes into ice from below. Their tusks, which are found on both males and females, can extend to about three feet (one meter), and are, in fact, large canine teeth, which grow throughout their lives. Male walruses, or bulls, also employ their tusks aggressively to maintain territory and, during mating season, to protect their harems of females, or cows.
The walrus' other characteristic features are equally useful. As their favorite meals, particularly shellfish, are found near the dark ocean floor, walruses use their extremely sensitive whiskers, called mustacial vibrissae, as detection devices. Their blubbery bodies allow them to live comfortably in the Arctic region—walruses are capable of slowing their heartbeats in order to withstand the polar temperatures of the surrounding waters.
The two subspecies of walrus are divided geographically. Atlantic walruses inhabit coastal areas from northeastern Canada to Greenland, while Pacific walruses inhabit the northern seas off Russia and Alaska, migrating seasonally from their southern range in the Bering Sea—where they are found on the pack ice in winter—to the Chukchi Sea. Female Pacific walruses give birth to calves during the spring migration north.
Only Native Americans are currently allowed to hunt walruses, as the species' survival was threatened by past overhunting. Their tusks, oil, skin, and meat were so sought after in the 18th and 19th centuries that the walrus was hunted to extinction in the Gulf of St. Lawrence and around Sable Island, off the coast of Nova Scotia.

We don't know if the parents knew that the fetus had that defect.

There's no chance at all of somehow moving the heart over time back to its proper place?

For believers into intelligent designers, this is the time you'd call customer services....

On a serious note: Tragic if she doesn't get the treatment.
"Sebaceans once had a god called Djancaz-Bru. Six worlds prayed to her. They built her temples, conquered planets. And yet one day she rose up and destroyed all six worlds. And when the last warrior was dying, he said, 'We gave you everything, why did you destroy us?' And she looked down upon him and she whispered, 'Because I can.' "
