Some of the worst things there are the illustrations. Other things I don't know what they would be for.

Horrendous. Being locked in an Iron Maiden has got to be one of the worst things imaginable.
Under the Patronage of Jom!
I visited one in Tallinn once.
Wow, Eastern European tortures are much worse than British ones. I went to the tower of London, all they had was a rack and some rather tortuous acting from the guide.
I mean...Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.
A local administrator was asked to comment. He nodded sagely, and said simply: "Wow. And think about how much more pronounced these effects will be once the tower is actually operational."
Ouch!
And I'm just about to get some lunch as well.

Scrolling down, seeing that saw blade, I thought, hmm a saw, no biggee. Then I scrolled to the illustration ... and I had to scroll faster.

I waited for so long in line to get inside that section. It was such a let down... We had a real torture exhibition in Tallinn a few years ago.Wow, Eastern European tortures are much worse than British ones. worst torture is a chinese one called ''death by a thousand cuts''
basicly the convicted is chained to a wooden frame, while he gets portions of his body/flesh cut over time, lasting for days or even weeks as fatal cuts are avoided to maximize the pain, sometimes small parts of the body was set on fire to cause putrefaction to happen or to morbirdly cauterize the wound (not as a way to prevent infections)
also, limbs could be cut or set on fire, but in a not fatal way.
it was banned in 1905.
for pics search in google lol
i've heard about a torture somewhere but i dont know where they practiced it
basicly you were given some herbs to make you have diarrhea and you would be chained and locked, then put on a hole, as you defecate, vomit, urinate, your body would become a paradise for all kind of horrid worms, insects etc, and you would be eated by them.

I saw the first image ... that's sticking around in my head a while. Aptly named procedure. And freakin' awful.
If anything, this thread demonstrates not that we don't torture people anymore, but the changing attitude towards it.
These days torture is frowned upon. We have laws against it. The social mores have changed. What torture does happen is less visible, perhaps more psychological, and certainly more clandestine.
These guys represented by the museum have no qualms about torture. Their devices are cast iron and clear about what they're all about. Torture torture torture. It's normal, it's painful, and you're not surviving unscathed.
