Default How do i use the Mongolians?

Sorry, i'm sure this has been asked before. I tried to do a search but to no avail. I want to use a Mongolian faction in MTWII. I don't have kingdoms. I'm willing to download a mod if it's possible to use them in one. I tried Clouds Across Europe a while back but it didn't work and i got absolutely no help from over there to answer my questions. Any help anyone can give me is much appreciated. Thanks.

I know there is a mod that makes the Mongolians a playable faction. I'm not sure if you need Kingdoms or not. I doubt it. I don't know where to find the mod though sorry. Just reassuring you there is such a mod. And you are the man the Mongols RULE. + rep for you

A shame. Kingdoms is a good expansion. I have an extra copy of it too.

The best way is through a mod. The best "Mongol mods" are Lands to Conquer and KGCM

You'll definitely want to get Kingdoms. Then if you download Stainless Steel you can play as the Mongols, or if you download the Retrofit mod then you can play the M2TW Grand Campaign in hotseat and play as the Mongols. Once they appear on the map you'll gain control of all their units so you'll just need to wait around a bit.

It possible to play mongol in regular vanilla...but it take quite a bit of patience

1-enable mongol as a playable faction in the descr_strat file
2-set your difficulty, select mongol in SP and start the campaign...it will appear with a sand clock cursor at the begining
    3-press esc, save the game
4-load it, it will allow you to do an "end turn"....click "end turn"
5-factions will make their move, then game will froze again at rebels faction
    6-save it one more time
7-load again...you will notice that the turn number is "2"
8-end turn, save, load, end turn, save, load...repeat, repeat.....urgh...repeat....FUUUU!!!!!......repeat......re.....pea.....t........
9-you will eventually reach the turn when mongol appears

This seemed to have been discovered by someone and tested to work. If i can find the original thread or if you can, thank him

So i finally got around to downloading Stainless Steel and i don't see the mongols as a playable faction? Anyone know why? I have the 4.1 updated version that was suggest on here. Why can't i start a campaign with them? Is it because i don't have Kingdoms or what? Thanks for the help everyone!

Canīt you just mod it, like if you want to make the Papal states playable?

The majority tends to download a mod or have someone else do it for them instead of modding it themselves.

For mongols it won't work that way one also has to edit the faction entry below in the descr_strat.txt file & mongols don't arrive at a fixed date that's random between a particular time set.

Use the Descr_strat file, thats the one in wihch all the factions are listed, and you will see...

    Unlocked, Locked, and Non-playable.

Unlocked is all the regular factions you are used to (locked is when you just start the game and you have to win as eng, france, spain, venice, or Hre to get the other factions) and non-playable is Papal_States, rebels (listed as slave), aztecs, mongols, and timurids. You can move one of these factions to "unlocked" and remove it from the non-playable.

Below the faction list, you will also notice "Start date" and "End Date" as well as Timescale =2.00" ... the time scale means how many years pass per turn, and the start/end is obvious.

I've played as papal-states and rebels before... as for Mongols, I haven't tried but I would assume that in order to play as them you will have to make the start date 1220 or 1240 - whenever it is that the mongols arrive.

Easier way for all. First edit your .cfg and add hotseat lines in (Will post when I have time). While in the .cfg file, create an admin password. MAKE SURE THE MONGOLS ARE SET TO PLAYABLE IN THE DESCR_STRAT FILE!!!

Then load up Med2, select a faction (Doesn't matter which) then open the console (`) and type logon "password". (Which let's you log in as admin and allows you to use the console in med2 in hotseat mode.) I.E. logon pass

Then, type: control mongols (In the console)

If you want to wait until the Mongols appear, just type control "faction" (Faction being the one you chose to start the campaign with.)

And in a few minutes, you will be playing as the Mongols and the AI will have played 60 or so turns until you appear.
