Sacred Band Vs Spartans Vs Urban Cohort

I just wanted to ask what your favorite is. I personally preffer the urban cohort, despite not being able to form phalanx they are very fluid and flexible on the battlefield. I have personaly beaten a unit of spartans with a unit of sacred band, despite the stupid claims the movie 300 made.

Yeah, we should totally not use units because they're inaccurate in a GAME.

Spartans are meh. Tough, but not cost effective enough. Sacred band are therefore the best phalanxes if you take practically into perspective. Urbans pwn any phalanx, but just like it was mentioned by Titus, they fail against strong cavalry.

If you were to pit them all against each other, then the Urban would win because Legions destroy any Phalanx unit with the pila and run through.

Urban Cohorts are overall better imo, missle attack beforehand and testudo formation as well. Plus i'd rather face an army of spartans than an army of heavily armoured roman infantry

They have the extra HP, plus I made a little video awhile ago (took it down) I believe they had 4000+ troops vs. my 100+ arcani, they had at least 80% pikemen, with quick movement, and fast killing, I only lost a couple troops.

I've just had the best experience with them.

Anything can be done against the AI. It's really easy to outmaneuver a bunch of pikes that drop their spears when they're amazingly far away from you still. You could do so much more with an urban. Furthermore, the Arcani are in tiny units, and they get really, really, really easily bogged down. You didn't take their high price into consideration, either. They're not worth the money. Being able to hide anywhere is a pretty stupid skill too.

To each general of war, his own tactics may he play, you may be viscous, but I am a subtle breeze that gently passes through, but leaves destruction as a gift.

Pharaohs bowman are my favorite unit . But if I had to choose a melee unit I would say triarii .

Arcani? lol. they're a joke... havent seen them used to great effect before.

anyway. urbans can't fight cav (especially praetorian cav or cataphracts) or chariots to save their lives, however they'll destroy any other phalanx unit quite effortlessly. even elite phalanx units like spartans or sacred band can't tear through a urban cohort quickly enough to stop the urbans wrapping around the sides and hacking them to bits. of course if you can maintain a coherent battleline that is long enough then you can hold the urbans at bay, for a while at least. a urban cohort in loose formation spread out 2 men deep can easily wrap around and destroy units like SS pikemen and royal pikes.

spartans are far too expensive and cost-ineffective for 15k cwb games that you'll often find online, so no, not my favourite nor are they really used all that much. armoured hoplties are a much better alternative. higher armour and much cheaper.

now sacred band are some of the toughest, strongest phalanx units so in a phalanx v phalanx matchup, sacred band in dense blocks will tear through anything else. sacred band can also fight decently against other heavy cav, but catas tend to smash them up quite well(like they smash anything else, so yea).

so if i'm going up against phalanx factions, i'd definitely take urbans along or any other legionary type infantry (SS legionaries are decent substitutes). If I'm up against cav or chariot heavy factions, then I'd take a unit of sacred band anyday over urbans

out of those three units, sacred band are my favorite. Im a fan of phalanx factions and g/g sacred band will tear through just about anything in a 1v1 at least in my experiances.

against most infantry units, yes, but they tend to get pwned, and pwned badly, by urbans.

Climbinarii Immortals on BI. Advantages:

1. Much stronger than cataphracts but the same 'meaning'
2. Can fire missiles
3. Powerful charges
4. Cavalry unit
5. Very high defence
6. As they are a cataphract unit they also have a very high attack
7. a 'special defence' as the fully armoured unit is like a tank, reflecting arrows.

Too bad their stamina isn't that great.

put 2000 eastern infantry with 2 units of spartans maxed out then you got a nice represantation

Well... Sacred band is my favorite out of those.

I wouldn't want the 'Elite' of Carthage to be my favorite over the Firemen of Rome
