Hey folks,
Please ignore anything about unit-descriptions, they are finished! Instead refer to my latest post. The information regarding spelling and grammar still applies
I'm looking for some more friendly chaps who fancy doing some writing for the mod, specifically unit descriptions.
I have a list of work that needs doing, but I'm reluctant to post it here for fear of spoiling the factions for a lot of people.
If you're interested, please let me know and which faction you would like to do. I will then PM you a list of the faction specific units that need doing.
If you've never done this before that's fine, but a few points:
- The descriptions need to be in proper English spelling and grammar.
- Wording is American, ie "armor" not "armour"; this was a stylistic choice based on Martin's writing, which uses American spellings even in European editions (I'm English
)
- Each description needs to contain information about the unit's tactics, armour and weaponry.
- If the unit is not generic, it needs information relating to its house.
- Dramatic and "historical" (as in pertaining to Westeros) should also be used when necessary.
A couple of examples:
Armoured Spearmen (generic):
Armored Spearmen are professional warriors, drawn from the lower classes throughout Westeros. Brothers, sons, fathers, they have been enlisted in the professional standing armies of the Great Houses and those whose banners are pledged to them. They have some skill in combat, having been better and more consistently trained than levied troops. Their standardized large shields and long spears make them very solid defensive unit, and their mail armor enables them to resist attacks from both foot and horse, so long as they are well supported. If necessary they can form a defensive circle to protect their flanks.
Armored Spearmen are an effective defensive unit and due to their mail armor, are capable of putting up a good account of themselves against heavier units, particularly when supported by other units.
Pikeman (generic):
Professional warriors, enlisted by bannermen and Great Houses, Pikemen are given superior training to the Spearmen that often make up the bulk of the foot soldiers in the armies of Westeros. Although they wear light armor, by virtue of their long pikes, they are capable of presenting a fearsome defensive wall made up of rows of steel pikes waiting to impale charging foes.
Robert Baratheon's armies made extensive use of Pikemen in the War of the Usurpur, particularly at the Battle of Summerhall. It is said by the bard's roaming Westeros that the greater part of the host of Lord Fell broke upon the Pikemen of Robert's army that day, and that news of their performance broke the spirits of Grandison and Cafferen, causing them to bend the knee to Baratheon that very day.
Let me know your interest here, and I will PM you in due time.
Cheers![]()
