Default Installing DLV onto a Win7 machine...

    Hi gang,

I'm an XP player so forgive my utter ignorance of Win7. Bought M2TW Kingodm's gold for my pal and installed on his new PC okay along with the 1.5 patch. Run the vanilla game okay, all's fine and plays perfect. So then installed DLV 6.0 and then 6.2 - Deus lo Vult installed seemingly as straightforward as when I do for my old XP system.

However.... When I run the game from the desktop icon I get a small window pop-up for half a second, then dissapears and game won't run - just left starting at the same desktop screen. Investigating the hard drive I see two program folders, one for regular and one for 64 bit, one of which has the DLV I installed.

What should I do to get it to boot up?

    Please advise.

Copy and paste your MTW2 folder into a new directory in the regular, not the x64 or 86 folder (why do we have one of those anyway?) Set the properties of all dlv install files and game launchers to run as administrator. Check your windows security settings too, the batch file is probably coming across as a virus or something. I have win 7 64, as well norton 360, so i've gone through hell playing modded games....

Hey this kinda brings up a point i've wondered, if my game crashes typicallly about every 5 years during the AI turn ( random nation ) does that mean I installed it incorrectly?

Try disconnecting from the internet before runnning a utility that shuts down all non-essential programs, I use Game Booster. Then switch off Zone Alarm (or whatever you use as a background firewall). These things can help. Then, once the game is running, you can Ctrl/Alt/delete to bring up the windows task manager. Under the [Proceses] tab you may then right click on the game process in thel ist and set its prioroty from the usual 'Normal' to 'High'.

Then again, your game files may have been installed slightly incorrectly. What version of M2TW have you? You may need to double check the precise offical patch to use.

Wipe the current game and clean the registry. Defrag your drives, etc. Then install afresh. Run the vanilla M2TW Kingdoms game once it has been properly patched with the correct one for your territory and language, etc. Running the game will ensure it settles in before you then start installing whichever mod you wish.

    best,

tokus where you installed the game..i have win7 64 bit...also try to run dlv as admin and also try not to run anything beside your dlv not even a page of windows explorer or a firefox...!!!

if the game didnt run...try to copy and paste it outside the program files folder and edit the shortcuts on the desktop to match those of the new location of the game..

or simply copy and paste the M2TW folder outside the program file..delete ur DLV folder from the mods folder and delete the DLV shortcut on the desktop then reinstall the DLV again to the new location of M2TW That you have created outside the program files..this will make the dlv shortcut on the desktop set to play the game in the new location

ur cousin should play DLV in the new location and it will be CTD free (out of the win 7 control)..while the old medieval can be played from it`s windows desktop shortcuts

BTW I Gave DLV to a cousin yesterday That i made this up to run the game on his laptop..lol

    Palatinae,

Thank you, I've printed out instructions and mulled them over a bit. I'm new to Win7 (so's my pal) so it is all strange (though we're quite at home with ol' XP). Have you further clearer instruction as I'm really not sure what I'm doing and I want to rescue pal from vanilla M2TW Spain game he's learning on. He's old Shogun & MTW fiend so is enjoying base game. Good news is the vanilla game run smoothly without problems for him. - no crashes so far (except pointer was a bit graphically screwed up).

DLV 6.2 plus BB 2.8 is fully installed. I just have to bend my brain around which file to pluck and where to really place it and he can enjoy the expanded Spain map and DLV game.

    Hope this finds you well,

look tokus u have installed the vanilla game..and it work fine with 7 and this is good

but for DLV...it may find problem to be installed to windows 7`s program files folder..which is located "C:\Program Files (x86)\creative assembly\medieval2 total war

so what u need to do: is to copy the whole medieval 2 total war folder and paste it outside the program files or the Program Files (x86) folder...

paste it in the c or d or anywhere else

then setup DLV 6.0 to the new pasted medieval 2 total war "remember this one to the mods folder in m2tw"
then setup DLV 6.2 also to the new pasted medieval 2 total war"remember this one to m2tw folder"
    then run the game...
    then install the bb 2.8
    then have fun

u will have the vanilla game working good...and another m2tw folder outside the program files containing the DLV for Running DLV...

sorry i replied late i was out all the day
