there are a lot of good things about the original two games.
    but
i would say forget about them, i doubt you would enjoy them at this point.
There value is primarily nostalgic and would probably be a dull experience for you to visit.
Once Rome was released, Shogun and Medieval became very obsolete.

Also, I believe I read somewhere that there were compatibility issues (at least with shogun) with the games and newer video cards (you have to use the minimap to control your troops). If you really do want to try them, there are demos.

Well I think when you started with newer games from RTW onwards you will find it hard going back to a game you are not familiar with. Aside from the obviously dated graphics the campaign play is also much different due to the risk style (*) and many players donīt like this as they never played that before.

But the players who started with STW and MTW (as myself) can go back easily
and enjoy the experience of playing these two games and have fun doing it.
Aside from the fact that MTW is not running anymore on my PC. STW on the other hand has not so much problems ...

(*) I said different and not worser as many others would say who are trying the old game and quit it fast cause it seems dull - it is not, if they would play it longer - it is an good experience for the ones familiar with the games in earlier days.
