    Default Regarding tournaments

Do you think a TW player should join as much competitions as possible for the fun of the game and the longlivety of the community?

Or should they just play friendlies? I even heard from people who avoid tournaments at all costs because they fear their "reputation" (based on forums and big mouth) would suffer from early round losses.

I think u shud join as many as possible and have fun with the game.

A lot of ppl dont do touranemnts because they dont have the time to arrange and play games or bad experinces in others
Why does anyone make an internets clan? There is no material advantage to it. We get no money from it, no resources, nothing tangible at all. Perhaps it is a longing for identity, a sense of belonging, and shared values, the very things that have been destroyed by the scourge of liberal-capitalist individualism. Perhaps we all secretly desire to pwn peoples' faces and flame them afterwards. Perhaps a trollface.jpg lurks within all our hearts. Perhaps it is all of those things. It is possible to perceive similarities between the growth of clans and the post-war rise in football fan clubs, new age cults, and religious fundamentalism. As our leaders neglected collectivist concepts like "the nation" and encouraged capitalist individualism and atomistic self-interest, we looked to other forms of collective identity to fill the void. And that, perhaps, is what the TW community really is. A haven of camaraderie and collectivism in a self-interested, materialist and individualistic world.

don't take the reputation thing too seriously m8 and enjoy the game as most tournaments are meant to be friendly
the nice thing about tourney is that people do strange new styles rather than the regular, standard play. also every maneuver matters alot more when its competitive

Ive never heard of people avoiding tournaments due to reputation. ive seen people drop out because they realized it was pointless, and because their ally was epic fail, but those all honourably and openly conceded to their opponents that they would probably win, and that it was pointless.
    Also, tournaments can be messy.
in fact once a tournament match was scheduled on easter at 3 PM, and i dragged myself out of a beer hall to be on time(naturally we celebrate easter by getting d drunk) only to find that my opponents werent showing up because they went to church. then there was also the one time in some sith tournament where my teams opponents failed to show up in the third round but we got disqualified instead, and the time i agreed to ally a friend in a tournament because he had no one else to play with, after which it turned out no one wanted to play with him because he was horrible at the game, which was not fun to find out as he killed more of my men than the enemy's. Furthermore some people care so much about winning those things that they cheat to do so. i got quite annoyed with such little things and i didnt have much to prove since i already regularly played the people that attend the more prestigious tournaments and the skill difference was not existant. eventually i just decided to go do something more useful like training new players. got a few offers to play with a few tournament big shots, but i dont see what is in it for me. my name on some big flashy signature? no the real point of those tournaments is to keep those players constantly improving on their skill by going past the limit. to invent new tactics, find new tricks to use. i reckoned that if i could bring new players to that level i would achieve the same. so yes, tournaments are an important part of any game, but not so important that people will avoid them to avoid a beating. no matter how good you are you will eventually lose. thats what gives the game a challenge. no one would play this if they always won.

As others said, most don't avoid tournaments for this reason. Heck, I destroyed 0-2 by some other guy in the playoffs of a tournament. Of course, I'm a noob compared to many others and I didn't expect to win.

From a personal perspective, I've found the few tournaments I've joined to be fun, so long as it moves along.

Interesting. But in your special case the accepted majority of skilled RTW players told me otherwise.

I hate to go off topic here, but has anybody told you yet that you're such a terrible troll that it's hilarious?

Whether or not you join tournaments shouldn't depend on this nebulous concept of reputation. I've enjoyed the few tourneys I've entered, and though I lost them all, and my "reputation" hasn't suffered. Honestly, nobody cares whether you win or lose, unless you run around claiming you are the best. There's more to this game than tourneys.
Smilies...the resort of those with a vacuous argument

    Oh, yes.

Btw you prooved this point as well. You refused a public challenge of a Jedi, thus disregarding the Sith clan code of honour. Good luck with your exams though, Sith Max. May the force be with you... this time.

I`m really sorry... truth hurts. I understand, political correctness is a reason for most to not tell you directly. But you should really not expect that as you never really believed in that concept either.

Something else though... I heard that some clans/players manipulate tournaments on RTW with made up accounts, altered gamestats etc. Are they desperate?
Could someone please send AHY from TAoW here to proove that?

Why don't you ask him personally? It seems most roundabout, to ask somebody, to ask him to post here.

He probably hasn't saved any actual proof of it. Even if it is true that it happens, although the extent of it is cause for disagreement.

Did you not know that some of the most successful RTW tournament players alter gamestats?
