    Default Marius Reforms...Way too fast!

Well I must say in my latest campaign as the Juli on vh/vh the reforms happend in the early year of 242 BC a mere 28 years after you start the game! Now I am quite sure this is the FASTEST I have ever seen the reforms come up as I was barely just getting past using hasati all the time and now Principes(sp?)

Also what is more weird is how everyone says its triggered by making an imperial palace? Well I wasnt even close in ANY of my city's to getting an imperial palace...infact I was just barely getting the 12k upgrade town at that time! Anyways has anyone seen the Marius reforms happen earlier then 242 bc as any faction?

It's not just YOU that has to build an Imperial Palace mate, IIRC it triggers if ANYONE builds and Imperial Palace. Check which Roman City is now "Huge" and you'll have the culprit for your untimely army refit.

in my current scipii campaign, i managed to take control of of all the southern Carthage settlements, except from carthage, they only have carthage and the settlement in spain(cant remember what its called) all of this before the reform. I thought that it took longer than usual

56 turns is fairly fast for the AI to get the reforms from my experience. It could be done in far less if you wanted to though. That might be a fun experiment to try out one day actually... see how long it takes to get a settlement to 24,000 pop. and the palace. Hmm, I'd guess 15-20 turns because of how long it takes to build things.

If you really want a challenge, use cheats to give yourself the money, population and buildings for the Reforms from the first turn. Then try fighting the campaign with not-as-uber troops like Auxilia. I now have to try this next time I play vanilla.

I was once an Angel of Total War Heaven, but gave up my wings for a life on the sea of battle.

Ugh Sometimes I think Town Watch are almost better then Auxilia...They die so fast and route in a half a second if something goes wrong...Hasati are a MILLION times better...I was quite angry that reforms happen so fast! Ah well...Time to bring the hurt on to the damnable Spanish and get revenge for them killing "Flavius the Great"!

I'm pretty sure there's something you can put in the decr_strat file so you start out with them. Can remember what it is though.

I once used the console to get my city to huge and trigger the reforms really early.

i agree with the auxilia point hastati were well better

i don`t think they come too fast i mean by the time i reform i already have about 30+ villages so i only use post-Marius in later game stages
