Upgrades and Macedon Campaign

Uhm, how do you get the gold upgrades cause I never seem to get past the silver upgrade.
And I'm wondering how do you all start out the campaign from Macedon. I always start taking southern Greece. But when I play with any other faction I always see Macedon first regaining Macedon and the times I do that while paying Macedon those damn Greeks always stab me in the back.

EDIT: Also when I take southern Greece I always see myself steamroll over norhtern Greece and Macedon quite easily. Also taking those settlements gets you a lot of money early in the game making it way too easy with Macedon. So personally I disagree with Macedon being defined as medium while they are very easy to play with. btw I play on H/H

I've never been able to get to gold except by retraining, which I don't tend to do because the AI can't.

Yeah, never trust the AI, especially AI factions that don't like you much to start with.

I usually start by focusing my efforts on the rich lands of Macedonia proper, then swing back down and clobber the Greeks. As for the difficulty, we'll be evaluating those across the board in the next version.

I've never gotten to gold equipment . I thought that was only obtainable through the forge improving temples in vanilla to be honest.

Strategy wise for Macedon I take Pella, Thesallonica and the one just to the east of Pella (can't remember the name), then head south and take out the Greeks. I find that for Macedon once you have about 6 cities you're safe though, so it gets a little easy.
