Default Brutii are marching into my territory

I am playing as Julii, and Brutii are marching into my territory (Salona and Segestica). I don't have enough popular support to attack them yet. They are just marching up to the territory and camping out there for multiple turns. The senate also has a large army camping between Arretium and Ariminium.

Should I be worried about this? Or should I just let them stay there?

If you haven't gotten a notice about the Civil War, then no you shouldn't need to worry about it (although if you can't attack them yet, there's not much you can do now, is there?).
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

Yeah, if there is no notice of Civil War yet and you are carrying the orders of the Senate to the letter then there nothing to worry about. Them and Scipi are your brethren, your fellow Romans and they will march from time to time into your territory and stay there for few turns. Don't be alarmed, it happens all the time. Just focus on your economy and building your armies and then you can take some steps against the real enemies of Rome.

Is it possible to cancel military access? Salona now has 5 brutii armies (all full banner) standing around next to it....

When will I have enough popular support to attack them?

Another question: the Senate wants me to make Germania surrender and become a Protectorate, but their last territory is under siege by the Britons. Should I just wait around? Or should I bribe the Britons?

If it really bothers you, just build up your own forces nearby.

    Generally, 24+ territories.

You could try to find one of their diplomats running around, or you could just ignore the Senate's demands - they're not terribly important unless you're trying to roleplay, and the rewards aren't worth much. In any case, it's nearly impossible to make a faction become a Protectorate.

I'm gethering some units there, but I can't spare too many. Is this some sort of bug? They brought their entire military force there, except the small garrisons in their cities. They have completely crowded the area between Salona and Appollonia with armies. They are ignoring the rebels near their cities.

The civil war is going to start soon because I am at 26 territories. As soon as it does, Salona is going to get swamped by Brutii. Look at the screenshot. (attached)

Believe it or not, they do that when for some reason( I can't explain.)...Happened to me when a A.I empire have so many mens, that they stay around...chilling, I suppose.
Don't fret, unless you get the Civil war Event, they will not attack you.

Also you can prolong the star of the civil war awhile until the Senate asks you to have your faction leader commit suicide...at that point unless your faction leader is quite horrible or super super old...You will have to begin the civil war...But the time between when you can and when you have too can give you enough turns to turn the tide and what not.

Do you have to have max popular support?

  12. #12

No, you do not have to max your popular support to begin the civil war. Usually when you're 3 or even 4 of those faction badges away from max that is enough.

Brutii are camped around Salona because that's their natural expansion path. They did that with me as the Scipii; I took all of Greece and basically blocked them off, so all they did all game was leave about 10 stacks down the coast by the Adriatic, unable to move anywhere. And I was getting popularity warnings frequently after 25 or so territories, but just pushed on into the Middle East until I had enough ground to attack Rome and win the campaign.

    LOL
    thats a pretty funny screenshot.
Judging from the year, you've hit the Marian Reforms, no? If this is the case, then those armies shouldnt be a problem. I've only played as far as the Civil War once, and that was around 256BC, so I conquered Rome half a century before the Marian Reforms. But, from what i've read on other threads, the AI for the most part will have pre-marian units against your legionaries. You can initiate the civil war by conquering at rapid rates (thats how i fought the civil war so early). If the war does break out, let the brutii take Salona. It's not a particularly profitable or strategically vital settlement. If anything, get your garrison out of Salona ASAP. Only leave enough men to prevent it from revolting. Hell, train a few peasant units to garrison it, and get your real troops out. Unless, of course, Salona has stone walls or better. I can't really tell from that screenshot. From my experiences, the AI is absolutely hopeless when sieging stone walls. You'll probably be able to fight off every one of those armies, battle after battle if they constantly attempt to lay siege to Salona.

Well the civil war started, and I lost the battle trying to take Rome, and the brutii got most of my eastern territories. They brought twice as much as they had in that screenshot and took alot of territories. I quit and started a greek cities campaign.

Haha, it's possible not to quit a Julii campaign when the Brutii come west. Anyway, every time I've played Julii the Brutii keep doing what you see them doing- standing around with stacks and stacks and stacks. It's not that hard to defeat them mate. Try to defend the area around Patavium (specifically that pass into the Balkans) with like a full stack or two. Keep another stack near Rome. I suggest having a 2:1 ratio of infantry to cavalry and fighting each battle on the battle map. Mass the cavalry into one HUGE maneuver group and charge the Brutii lines from the rear and massacre 'em. Those stacks'll evaporate in no time.

Replay the campaign man, it's gonna be easier since now you can get a feel for when all hell's gonna break loose.

I'll try julii again after i finish the greek campaign. Greek is much easier, I cant spend all the denarii I earn, no matter how hard I try...
I just got barbarian invasion, medieval 2, kingdoms, empire, and napoleon, so ill be busy with those for a while too.

EDIT: does anybody know if the romans will start a civil war even when I play as the greeks? Or does the civil war only happen when I play as a roman faction?
