Default Many Sub mods...too hard to choose

Has anyone else noticed that there are a lot of submods. Perhaps people can start condensing or working more closely together. Just my thoughts, don't hurt me.

Seems reasonable on paper but it's just not how things work out. There's simply a lot of people with individual ideas working on their own projects. People who don't really know each other nor are in any way close and it's practically impossible for these separate individuals to cooperate in a way that would cause them to suddenly decide to form a cluster of mods. From their individual perspective they are just as overwhelmed as you and most mods aren't really developed at the same time but spring up at separate intervals.

The kind of cooperation you're suggesting would almost literally require a Borg like collective with a shared consciousness.

Another guy in the ideas, wips and proposals forum suggested that instead of wasting time on the "not-very-useful" submods all these modders should come together and realize the big project ideas such as the ones you will find in the wips/ideas forum.

Something like that might make sense to an outside observer looking in on all that goes on in modding but if you think about it just a little you will realize just how unrealistic of an expectation that is.

In any case take a look at the mod list in the sticky, it might help you decide. Some mods like Barons incorporate many smaller mods in a single package which is very handy and some might even be compatible with each other but you need to be careful and gather information first.

You could always learn to combine them yourself! If you have any experience editing the text files then I'm sure you've had to make these submods compatible with your "own" version. If not, well its not usually that hard; just make back ups before you experiment. You can usually get the job done by unzipping/unraring the mod into a seperate folder ie the desktop and looking at what files are modified. Then with a little thought, some comparing of files, and a little copy paste its not so bad. I have been able to combine the Additional Units Mod, the new hero models, the throwing axe fix, the "Spoils of War" script from the interactive gameplay mod, and parts of other mods. I've even started adding in many FROME units as additional units, replaced a few of the models, and made it all compatible with my changes to nearly all text files and my personal generals submod (nothing spectacular). The point is only to show that a non modder like me with a little free time has managed to combine some of them for my own needs with much success; so try it! Most submod creators are helpful and nice (hence them sharing their work with us) and the forums are filled with tutorials on most files and knowledgeable people to help you along the way. I'm always a little hesitant to share my noob quality work because I fear messing up other people's games if I make mistakes!

    Good Luck!

It's not 2.1 compatible yet but, RC/RR does an excellent job of incorporating a lot of smaller sub mods or at least parts of them into one very well presented bundle with a tried and true system of balance to boot. Also, as someone else has mentioned Rusery is doing something along these lines as well.

    Clearly has his priorities straight.

The problem with RC/RR is that a ton of the submods incorporated there are just broken. A lot of that content is originally lost which is unfortunate. Some things you can pick out of RC/RR and piece together but a lot of the time its just not possible to separate what you want. I'm not promoting my submod but i will tell you that when i am finished all the (borrowed) files i will be using will be uploaded in their original forms so they are not lost in time, like we all know some have. Essentially i am making a massive unit pack, with a ton of extra features, which to a lot of people seems worth something. In the process i am able to work closely with some real modders to crank out new units to be put into the One Balance mod so they can be preserved. Check it out and if you are interested keep an eye on it!

Promoting one's mod is perfectly fine but you may not want to do it by putting other mods down, especially if it's one of the most played sub-mods (in two major mods) created by someone much more experienced than you.

All sub-mod's incorporated into rc/rr work as their creators intended. Some like the Lore Mod were never finished but that's a different story.

Im not sure how you saw my post as putting RC/RR down. That was not the intention. All mods have weaknesses and strengths and knowing them is an asset. There is no way in the 9 circles of hell will i ever be able to achieve the amount of skill and knowledge PB has and no negativity will EVER be displayed to his mod or his compilations as i have more than enough respect for him and all of the mods involved. I am actually in contact with many of those modders in respect to adding their files to my mod to keep them going strong.

Before i started helping out with a submod i wondered this as well but with the submod im working on we struggle wit our team of about 4 to keep it going due to real life, i can only imagine a team of 15 or more ona major mod.

Also, if your having trouble choosing, you could make multiple folders of TATW and install different mods in each of them. For example I have one for Baron Samedi's mod, one for FROME, and one for vanilla TATW 2.1. More info on how to do this can be found here : http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...tiple+versions

Thats actually what I have done, though I put my own tweaks in with each (I personally love massive unit pools, among other things)
