    Default About Faction Naming?

    In DotS, will you use native names for each factions? Then maybe you can create a script that will change the faction name in accurate year?
    For example: al-Fātimiyyūn (Fatimid Caliphate) - al-Ayyūbīyūn (Ayyubid Sultanate) - Saltanat al-Mamālīk (Mamluk Sultanate)

    Or will you create more unique names for all factions? For each periods of history?
    For example: Saltanat al-Miṣr (Sultanate of Egypt) - Saltanat al-Maghrib (Moorish Sultanate) - Türk Sultanlığı (Turkish Sultanate)

    Right now we are having to use generic names which will work for all potential transitions/periods but aren't necessarily the best for any of them. This is a game engine limit that can't be overcome via scripting. We have possibly come up with a way to have them change which would require having to restart the game in order for the change to take place, but this has not yet been tested.

    Hej Sumskillz

    is there not a way to change the edu file by restarting the game based on year/turn to overcome the units limit of 500?

    Just curious, don't know if it is in any way possible but i just hate that limit on units..

    It might be; we haven't fully explored the possibilities of what can be achieved in this way. Although I can't image making that many more units even if it would be really cool to have them. Azim is the genius behind this stuff, so don't take my answers as authoritative.

    Okay, I hope Azim can give us an authorative answer then. Because nevertheless I think it would be freakin awesome to overcome that units limit!

    Although I do think 500 unit slots are more than enough to represent most of the units in four hundred years time, eh.

    A new mobile phone tower went up in a town in the USA, and the local newspaper asked a number of people what they thought of it. Some said they noticed their cellphone reception was better. Some said they noticed the tower was affecting their health.

    One can generally try to cut down on some similar units to at least more efficiently use the EDU , i.e Levy archer vs Archer militia etc... (that type of difference alone accounts for probably a dozen excessive EDU spots), also some overrepresented units (most obvious example, billmen vs heavy billmen vs bill militia etc... ). and obviously cut back on fanatasy and/or very rare units (Sherwood archer... cough cough... battle field assasin types....)

    The 500 EDU spot limit sucks but at least modders could try to make more efficent use of limited spots.
