i don't know, seems weird to me since they share similar family(e.g. abortion, gay marriage)/religious/work values.
but in most republican speeches you hear about how they must stop illegal immigrants, some saying that mexican immigration is a huge plan to make them mexican dominated, and reattach them to mexico, and a lot of yadda yadda

so, is it just a matter of time before they ally, or is (most) of the american right too stupid to be opportunist?

The reasons why some republican leaders are denouncing mexican immigration as the ultimate evil is that they are pandering to some voters whcih include racists, people that worry that mexicans will abuse the welfare system, people that think they will "take ther jebs", or the people that think increased immigration brings other social problems especially crime. Obviously I see the point of the latter 3 to a certain degree since those are problems that come tied with having a poor uneducated immigrant population. There are 2 main ways to solve them both with their problems. Oe is to keep them out, and get rid of the ones who are here illegally, or help them with some of their problems which creates some goverment dependency, although it probably helps quite a few in becoming productive members of society.

Hispanics are basically down with the GOP, but the GOP isn't down with OPP. For some reason White People can't acknowledge the fact that despite not being English Hispanics are both conservative and (at least by my shallow opinions) white. I mean there's some indigenous and black blood, but they're White. Just not Anglo.

Also Protestants hate Catholics. Mexicans are Basically tanner Irish people (being Irish I know that's actually an oxymoron.)

Actually many Republicans do personally support illegal immigration, albeit under the table and without ever debating the issue (ala Meg Whitman).

Its really only an issue with the psuedo-idealist Republicans. Interesting how going back to last 120 years US "legal immigration" has never been an even percent ratio. Its always tended to favor WASP Calvinist countries (compare legal immigration quota numbers) overtly Pre-1925 Immigration Act and covertly since then (look what happened to Japanese-Americans during WWII). Many in political power have always tried to manipulate which countries were OK to immigrate from and which countries were not-OK to immigrate from.


The irony of course is what is "legal immigration"? Was coming over via Columbus and Pilgrims and then declaring war "legal immigration"?
Looks to me like Europeans invaded the Americas and displaced the locals then made up laws about who and who could not immigrant.
Pretty ironic IMO for WASP descendants of invaders to whine about "illegal immigration".

Although its also ironic how USA already has way more lenient immigration policies than countries like Japan or England.

This is just standard mass immigration fear. They had the same with the Irish. they had the same in california with the chinese. Although the key difference between the immigrants abroad and mexican immigrants is that the mexican immigrants due not integrate well. They constantly head back home across the border, resulting in them associating with mexican culture rather then blending into the mesh of american culture. I see this first hand at my school where many mexicans barely speak any english. They tend to hang out with one another and are unfortunately, often gang affiliated.

I can see the difference between immigrants at my school. The many chinese and eastern europeans at my school tend to wear american clothes, and generally about half of their friends are american americans (american accent and all). While, the hispanic population does not.
