Default How can I add factions?

I have been playing the Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod for some time now, but there are a few things bothering me. Firstly: I would like to have the vanilla map with the original regions. Secondly: the Mongols do not act I would have liked them to (even though I have modded the script to make them spawn in the south, they still try to conquer to north regions).

It seems quite difficult to bring such changes to the KGCMod, so I have decided to install the Retrofit mod + Grand unit add-on mod instead. My only problem is that I would like to have at least 2 of the Kingdoms factions in the vanilla campaign: Kingdom of Jerusalem and Principality of Antioch.

Can someone please explain me how to add these factions? Is it complicated? If yes, can I copy-paste scripts from the KGCM to make things easier? Finally, how many factions can I add?

    Thanks in advance.

Gig's tutorial should have everything you need to know. (this is no wham bam thankyou maam, process) if its your first time you will have problems, and it could take quite awhile to tweak everything just the way you want it.

Adding the faction is one step adding the resources needed for the faction, then adding units, adding all the resources associated with those units, then adding it to the campaign.

Have you tried Stainless Steel? It has the KOJ. KGC was the first mod I got for mtw2 back in the day. Since I tried Stainless Steel its been my go to "Medieval" mod.

Thanks for your reply! Wow, it seems more complicated than I had thought.

Stainless Steel has a map too large to my taste. The KGCM is the closest thing I am looking for except for the 2 things I mentioned in my first post. Do you think these can be somehow fixed?

Once you add a faction once, its not too difficult (sure there is alot of things to do), every bit of modding you do takes you one step further to not having to wait until somebody does what you want because you can do it yourself.

Although most people start small and work their way up, its doable.

Its not an insurmountable task don't let me scare you. If you are capable of following directions, follow the tutorial I linked, by the end of the tutorial you will have a new faction in the game. From there you only need to make it into the faction you want it to be.

I will say most everything you have to do is "time consuming" more than difficult.

If you are using a default culture and relgion which you would be in this case, it makes this job alot easier.

There are also plenty of tutorials on adding new units, and all of the KOJ/Antioch resources (textures, models, EDB/EDU/Battle_models entries, ui stuff etc.) already exist in your crusades mod folder, you will merely have to follow the tutorials and do a clone job.

Again it isn't overwhelmingly difficult, but it will be time consuming especially the first time you do it. The only really bad part of it is, once you get really comfortable with modding, you most definitely will never stop. Its tough for me to get through a campaign, without constantly finding more tweaks I want to make which will probably turn into some major overhaul, i swear I spend more time modding than playing.

Sorry for the derail there as to your issues with KGC map, yes you can change the map, I don't know enough about region editting to offer any advice though(to say whether editting the map would be tougher than adding some new factions), I havent done more than editting some climates as far as that is concerned.

There are ALOT of references to locations on the map, be it in descr_strat or the campaign script or elswhere, so that may be a pretty big task as well.

WAIT a minute here. Ive never played the retrofit mod. Does it have multiple campaigns and KOJ and antioch exist in some of those campaigns just not the "main" campaign? If the answer to that is yes, then the factions already exist in that mod, you merely need to make them playable in a particular campaign (which is a hell of alot less work than adding a faction essentially from scratch).

Mmmm, I might give it a go, but only if all other options get discarded.

Concerning the retrofit mod, it transposes features from Kingdoms (boiling oil, new maps, etc) to the vanilla campaign.

Concerning the grand Unit add-on mod, it transposes many new units from Kingdoms to the vanilla campaign. From what I see, many units from the new factions are added as "special regional units" or mercenary units.

I don't know if something can be done with this mod.

An alternative option would be to copy files from the KGC mod, or tweak them.

also ramzito it is actually easier to just modify existing ones
if your project/goal is not to go above twenty one factions you can do it all rather easily
P.M. me if you want I am open to helping you!
what have I done that credits me:
in my mod I am working on ChC
I have completly changed cultures, voice types, all symbols, all flags & banners (campaign & battlefield , complete unit roster overhauls, re`skinned campaign models , faction names, descriptions and all other text & all visual elements besides skinning the units for at least 15 of my factions
so P.M. me would be happy to walk you through it!
