    Default Byzantium on a crusade?

Hi everybody! I'm wondering if it's possible(and how to do it), to let Byzantine Empire take a part in a crusade with rest of the Christian world without changing their religion to Catholicism.

    Any thoughts?

Byzantium never went on a Crusade or any other Orhtodox country/government. It was a pure Catholic thing.

I know that, but I'm playing mostly as Byzantium and it's annoying that Catholics have Crusade, Muslims have Jihad and I have nothing like that

My friend as a Roman (byzantine) you don't need a crusade.
It was suposed that 1st crusade was an attempt to help Roman Empire (byzantium) to regain its own lands from Nikaea to Jerusaleem.
Every war you make in this game is under that goal and there for you are creating your own requnquista.
TGC in order to continue its development seak one or more desicated scripters to put our campaign scripts mess to an order plus to create new events and create the finall missing factions recruitment system. In return TGC will give permision to those that will help to use its material stepe by step. The result will be a fully released TGC plus many mods that will benefit TGC's material.
Despite the mod is dead does not mean that anyone can use its material
    read this to avoid misunderstandings.

IWTE tool master and world txt one like this, needed inorder to release TGC 1.0 official to help TWC to survive.
Adding MARKA HORSES in your mod and create new varietions of them. Tutorial RESTORED.

If you want to maintain some level of "accuracy" from a religious standpoint, while allowing byzantium to crusade, how about you change the references to catholic to "christian"(just the actual text representations, you dont have to actually change the game constants to christian). and assign both National denominations to the catholic relgion. that way you can crusade and dont have to be called a catholic and its not essentially "wrong" since its just using a generalization.

Aside from making the generalization of "Christian", it is possible to get some of the effects of a crusade through scripts. Like the improved movement speed for chosen generals and recruiting some specific mercs with 0 upkeep.

Depends on what you want to do.

I was also peeved by that.
Some of the benefits of a Crusade/Jihad are: reduced upkeep = more money, free troops for some turns.

So in the mods I made (I scripted LTC heavily, in LTC: Random maps) I tried to "clone" some of the benefits a crusade would give Catholic players for orthodox and pagan factions.
The way I tried to adress it, is that after some conquered regions, the factions get 1. some money from happy nobles 2. some free troops from loyalist citizens.

Isn't it possible to give a character traits which will increase their walking distance on the campaign map?

Just assuming the above is true, and if you dont care about historical accuracy: You could create a script in the campaign_script.txt file which has a activate_roman_crusade event which works by yes or no (1 or 0) monitor ("monitor_event" something like that) and another monitor on how frequent a roman crusade has been.

Then combining the two you can set to activate_the_roman_crusade on specific dates or specific actions on the campaign map (lost a settlement, gained a new king, at war with faction X .... etc) and the other monitor can set the frequency of how often the crusade trait is activated on a particular character (ideally the faction leader). But that wouldn't be enough because you also need to monitor when the crusade is over, and for how long it will go.

    Anyway thats just my idea.

I think it's just not worth it i mean Byzantine was an empire not a small kingdom or something.
They were already on like 24/7 crusade with the turks. So need to get all techy on it.

If it's script base then i suppose it should only be like an empire trying to require it's lost land and nothing else connected to religion.

When in Medieval forum, I write about Medieval even if it did happen at other times in history. In Medieval II Total War, it's the Crusades and Byzantium from 1080 to 1530 did not participate in any. My definition of "never".

If you want to include all written history, we have a different discussion going and you are right.

Yeah but the game starts at 1080. I am talking game time not history time.
