    Default faction screen crashing

i know this is a common problem for mods but its really annoying in DLV and ive never asked why it happens. so why does the game craxh after choosing multiple factions on the faction selection menu?

I've looked over at SS, and for SS 6.3, they fixed it through a rather simple, but non-obvious solution. It has something to do with the 30 preview maps that come up on the faction selection screen. i.e., the maps that show the starting positions of the various factions.

What SS 6.3 did, (via someone I can't someone, and I would give him credit if I could remember) is remove the maps from the campaign folder, and place them in the menu folder to replace the unique unit image, (i.e. the Longbowmen for England, the Gendarmes for France, etc.) I tried it with DLV a while back, but it looked very weird with the map so small in the corner.

What SS did, and what DLV would have to do, is rearrange the format or "template" of that screen, so that the menu unit image file (now the map image) would appear larger and in the upper left. The other image (the original map file) is NOT replaced with the unit, but left blank. In SS, they placed the campaign length button there.

Long story short, it has to do with the map preview images. If someone knows how to rearrange those templates, and wants to get into...go right ahead, I'll work with you. and hopefully, HOPEFULLY, that would fix the problem.

    TQ

EDIT: HERE it is, unanime5 found the fix. And since I noticed kaiser1993 had changed some things in the mtw2.lnt file....I might take this task on....Have to print out his instrcutions and see what I'm dealing with first...hmmm

It's simple to fix, just delete the .tgas that begin with 'map_' in the campaign's folder.

Tokus, something you could do is create a single picture which shows all of the factions starting locations. You will see what I mean exactly when you do as I suggest above. Without those 'map_' tgas the program defaults to using a single picture, and if that single map gave us the right info about faction starting locations then the problem is completely solved.

But it will still CTD when we go between campaign and custom battles menus.

I'd love to see this change implemented too. I want to read the info on the various factions each at the selection screen, without having to reload the game in between each. But it's a minor issue for me I guess, as I usually already know which one I'm going to play.

I have fixed it already. See HERE

It just hasn't been incorporated anywhere because it requires you to delete files manually. But the instructions are there, and it's all copy/paste, so no need to go into any text-editing or otherwise messing around with the game files. Let me know how it works.

    TQ
