Default Help! Gold Edition Kingdom's installation problem

I just purchased the Gold Edition of Medieval 2, complete with the Kingdoms expansion. The first DvD installation went fine - no hiccups at all. However, when I popped in the second disk for the Kingdoms expansion, two things happened:

First, the installation wizard came up and told me to insert the second disk, which was currently in the drive. I tried taking it out and putting it back in, but no dice.

Second, after closing the install and trying again, the DvD won't even read the disk anymore. Every time I try to launch it, a small box flashes on screen for a half a second, then closes. Nothing else happens.

I'm running Windows 7, and like I said, the original MTW 2 installed fine. It's just the kingdoms expansion itself that I can't seem to install.

I disabled the UAC earlier, still no luck. I don't think it's the DvD driver itself, because thus far everything else has worked. I'll try the manual install and see what happens.

Ugh - it's still not working. I tried the manual install, but even after copying the files over, the autorun (which runs blank.exe, which is the installer I imagine) still won't start up. Any suggestions, or should I return it for another copy?

Maybe another copy. How new is your dvd-rom? Some have proven too new a game this old.
You can explore the disc in Computer and try to run the seperate setup.exes from there starting with the Update2 folder.
The only thing Sega did was take the two dvds, put them in a new box, and sell them. It did not update the installers.

I already installed all of the original M2 - so I have all of the updates for it. It's just Kingdoms, for whatever reason. That's what's confusing me - the first disc ran just fine. The second one, for whatever reason, just won't start the install.

Edit - I just bought this laptop about last year, so it's still fairly new. I'm gonna be upset if I can't install the game because it's too new - I downloaded M2 Kingdoms online, only to find that I couldn't install mods. That's why I bought the hard copy.

Many laptop models are proving to be that way.

One chance is see if there is a firmware version for your drive that is backward compatible about five years.

The only download version I know that "works" with mods is Steam's and some have had issues with it.
