Icon14 The papal states (Cittą del Vaticano)

The papal states should get more interests in the mods and Medieval 111.

Here can you post questions about the papal states, or just share your experience and fun things about the Papal states

I kinda like the look of the groovy Papal roster in Custom battles, even though their colours remind me of a fried egg.

Been thinking of playing a campaign with the Papals but the twc wiki says it might cause instability.

Is it a bit like playing the Senate in rtw?? bit ropey and prone to crashing?

Those short campaign objectives don't seem very 'short'...capture 80 provinces?? Bit much innit??

At least I have never experienced any such instability

Well, it isn't made to be playable. But if you mod them to be playable, you could always mod the victory conditions as well

Interesting stuff CK So if I make them playable, I'm more or less good to go, and its like playing a regular faction? what about family members and papal missions, excommunications etc? Can I ignore all that stuff and go on the rampage clobbering everyone and calling crusades on my foes?

Could be a winner this...can't get excommunicated and all the Catholic factions have gotta be nice and friendly and behave themselves.

Family members: no, they have no family tree
    Papal Missions: no
Excommunications: everyone you go to war with are excommunicated, in addition to those who get too little papal favour
Crusades: you can't call crusades, you need some other faction to request it

In addition, Milan will always betray you (as always). Especially if you take Florence and Ajaccio. They want those cities.
Also, the Moors will most likely go to war against you. Perhaps Venice and HRE as well. Sicily are usually peaceful though (and that's a shame, since they're the best expansion place for a Papal States player)

IF a faction get excommunitated, you can offer reconsiliations and get much money for it to.

One time I tried, I cuold call a crusade, but another time, i couldn't. Strange

One awsome thing: You get inquisitors. You can control them, and kill any one you want. thats fun
They got very high succses chance too

Wahey!! Inquisitors!! I'm liking the sound of unlocking the Papals more and more!! Can players recruit them or are they spawned at random like the regular game? Are they like the Med1 Inquisitors where we get to burn everyone and roll around bumping off duffers?

Is there any stuff to avoid clicking to avoid crashes or probs? I'm thinking of the senate tab crash in rtw if playing as spqr.

Med1 rocked with those guys sorting everyone out. I gotta ask..are they two types? regular and Grand?

Don't think I've ever seen that movie before +rep. I do enjoy roasting and burning and keeping everyone zesty and on their toes. My Med1 maps were usually clogged with Grand Inquisitors

A Papal campaign may well commence over the weekend Sounds a laugh.

Thats a rocking movie clip JPU Can't beat a bit of 'persuasion'

Grim thought though..if I unlock Popey...do I not get a saucy papal princess?

I'm unlikely to take a Popey campaign too seriously so can we still use the console cheats ok? Are all the Papal units in a text file somewhere so I can create units and make wacky armies?

I think you'll find the papal units with the others in EDU

Anyway, they are just "Swiss Guard", "Papal Guard", "Dismounted Broken Lances", "Pavise Crossbowmen" and so on. Not so difficult

And for the princesses, you'll have none of them

Oh well, I guess its truly Popey stuff eh? "what the Lord giveth, He can taketh away" and all that.

    The Princesses Taketh

    The Inquisitors Giveth

Sounds a right laugh rolling about the map as the Papal Armies with the Holy Console. Pope Fireright I bringeth purification to ye all

Just say the console is God. God just provided you with a full stack of Swiss Guard

A pope has an explanation for everything

I don't think you can recruit units, when you play as the rebels, so then you would have to cheat

And besides, they have no heavy infantry

The only thing who is owerpower in the rebels faction, is the many cities you have. So if you rush in the start, you can take a lot of real faction cities

At last: you only hav three generals with the rebels
