    Default Unit Editing causing CTD

So I am doing a bit of editing myself regarding changing unit characteristics (ie changing unit sizes, giving/taking away attributes). I am using the Caligula Editor. I tried Using the BrandonM's toolset but that didnt work since the changes never took effect. When I use caligula, the changes do take effect, however, as soon as I start a custom battle i get a CTD, also all the rebel units show up as available in the gondor faction unit list...

    WTF

any helkp would be awesome, thanks in advance.

    Post your question here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=276

Most peeps in this part of the forum have no idea what you are talking about as it is not meant for modding questions.

    Good luck with your problem.

You also need to say what it is you've changed. It's almost impossible to tell this way. Remember that even a single typo or incorrectly placed comma can cause a ctd so if you've made a lot of changes it can be very difficult to track down the error. The first and best option is to consult the error log which will hopefully show you where the mistake is.

But like alreadyded say it's best to take your problem to the mod workshop.

okay, caligula doesnt actually work for M2TW as it uses those pck files or watever, however, TATW uses txt files for the units, thus caligula can be used to open the unit files. You can change the file itself, but i think there is some sort of incompatability, that is, their is some small change to the TATW file, where it makes caligula not work properly. Units can still be modified though by opening the descr_export_units (i thinks that it, never actually memorized it) and changing what you want. I changed unit sizes manually this way. To change other attributes I would advise opening the file with caligula, and then matching up the various number values to the actual text document, and then changing them manually. Laborious as I know, but this is the best way I have found for M2TW so far.

Imo it's best to just open the EDU with notepad and make the changes "manually". It's not hard to do and there's no need to fiddle with editors and any errors they might produce.

manually editing text files isn't so bad once you practice a bit. meticulously document your changes and test the game often! I once changed 50 units in the modelsdb file, got a crash and couldn't pin-point it, ending up doing the whole file over again 4 units at a time til I found the error LOL!

With simple text editing you can do TONS! I added all 9 members of the Fellowship as generals for Gondor with their general units, pics and textures, hehe. The trial and error took a long time but it was worth it! Sam, Frodo, Merry, Pippin - hold the line! Gandalf - charge them in the back! rofl
