NTW Data Checker

Ever get the problem that your trying to set up a multiplayer game with your friends, but you get that damn "Incompatible version" message?

Ever tried to make a mod work, but you have no idea what exactly is in your data folder, or whats meant to be there for that matter?

Ever get those random game CTD's, and you have no idea what could be causing it, someone tries to help and asks whats in your data folder, but you don't know an easy way to tell them?


Hopefuly, this tool will get rid of or help you with all these problems and others.

What it does, is allows you to view your data folder in a way that will enable you to easily see what files you have in your data folder. It will sort all of these files into a various categories for you to view:

All Files - All of the files in your data folder.
Standard Files - All of the files in your data folder that are standard game files.
Non-Standard Files - All of the files in your folder that aren't originaly from NTW.
Altered CA Files - All of the Standard Files that have been edited.
Missing CA Files - Any of the Standard game files required play the game that are missing.

The program has help text facilities to allow you to find out exactly what each of the categories are.


I made this tool simply to solve my problems and that of those I try to play MP with, it then expanded a little from there and some people suggested I release it, so here it is.

"Make Me Vanilla" - The program has a "Make Me Vanilla" function, simply to save people the time and effort of doing all the thing neccesary to make their game vanilla when wanted. It will move (not delete) all of your mod files to a new special folder within your data folder and allow you to edit your user.script easily.

"Change Folder" - You can change where the program thinks your data folder is.

"Open Data Folder" - You can also open your data folder and user.script from the program for ease of use.
"View User.Script"

Help - The program can also provide you with help on various aspects should you need it.

Plans for future

- Include all of the data folders sub-folders within the search, and all files within them.
- Improve my English.
- Asthetics. Maybe.
- Other stuff.

Update Notes:
V1.1 - Few small fixes.
V1.2 - Optimized the code, made it so it now looks at registries to find the install path.
V1.3 - Just a quick test update. Didn't release for public.
V1.4 - Tool now works for everyone.. I fixed a stupid mistake. Also the tool now has a far more indepth Verify Game Cache utility, it will take MD5 Hashes of your files to see if they are accurate.



NOTE: This program does not provide any game files.

it wont find the data folder and when i point it right at it it says there are no files in it

So you get the message that it cannot find your Data folder, then you point it at your data folder, and then when you search for the files, it says there are none in there.

I will look at this problem, maybe it is inherent with everyone who uses the feature to find your folder after the program cannot.

EDIT: Also to anyone who's data folder cannot be found by the program on its own, please do tell me the directory of it, its an easy fix then.

my data folder is:
D:\programmi\Steam\SteamApps\common\napoleon total war\data\
but your pgm. can't find it. When I manually pointed to that folder, program runs, but the file lists are empty.
That folder data is correct, because there are, inside, the same files of your example picture.

The version of your pgm. is: NTW Data Checker.exe 413.696 27/10/10 13.50
(I've also tried to copy pgm. in that folder)

Same problem here, NTW Data checker seems unable to find the data folder because it is located in D:.

And do you also mean, that when you try to select your folder from the popup box, it still doesnt work ?

and yes I mean it still doesn't work even after I've selected the correct folder from the popup box

still same problem didnt fix it and what do u mean i got a Strange location? i got games on D and other stuff that got to do whit comp on C so whats the strange thing with
