Ya just heard of this on the news. I think its definately good, their are soo many ways any political figure can use this as a weapon against groups they do not like. Simular to Nixon and watergate.... however this is perfectly legal so long as you have newly-appointed-by-you-judge accept that you are doing this.

You should be happy if you are Democrat or Republican for this, I can imagine both parties using this act against eachother, corporations, and lobbyists. This was a law that was made in a hurry due to congress wanting to look like they were doing something after a disaster, nothing more.

edit: Should change the name of this to "legal-watergate act".

About time they cleaned up the mess they created, maybe next time they will read the damn thing before voting for it. If I thought the Patroit act actually helped or achieved its goal Id support it or atleast consider it but since it doesnt its bs.

Wow this is amazing, I never expected for politcians to remove the patriot act. I thought that anything that gives the federal government more power, they would hang on to like dear life. I guess I overestimated the EVILNESS in our government...maybe it doesnt pay to be a pessemist ALL the time.

Yes but a lot of them didn't read it the first time either, and it was right after 9/11, they would've passed almost anything.

And it should be kept in mind that a lot of opposition existed on the republican side as well. Some republican senators were even in on the organizing of a possible filibuster on it.

Which says alot about politicans, wonder how many would blindly sign a document about their own personal affairs my guess very few but yet they sign one for the entire population.

Of course because its a stinking pile of crap 'law' that deserves to be overturned. That isnt the issue the issue is congress shouldnt be applauded for it because they were the ones who made it law in the first place, they are simply undoing their own screw up.

Well, yes, but that doesn't mean it isn't something to be happy about. I wasn't giving the politicians credit, it's great they did this, but they did pass it first. All I am trying to say is that it's a positive move for the country.

But supporters of the Patriot Act say the vote will make libraries a "safe haven" for terrorists.

"If there are terrorists in libraries studying how to fly planes, how to put together biological weapons, how to put together chemical weapons, nuclear weapons, ... we have to have an avenue through the federal court system so that we can stop the attack before it occurs," said Rep. Tom Feeney, (R) of Florida.

LOL. I went to the library yesterday and looked for "Nuclear Weapons For Dummies". Hmm, maybe I should learn how to make my own meth lab at the library or learn how to shoot automatic weapons.

Issues like that make me glad I'm not in the US. My government would be torn down in an hour if they proposed anything that violates the population's rights of privacy. I guess it is a bit harder to pull out the government in the US...

Do I sense some displeasure at the news of this from you, Rush? I would think you being the libertarian and all that the Patriot Act is about the worst thing the Federal government has ever passed...

I will agree with everyone else that this was a hastily approved measure that received very little thought before it was passed, and these provisions of it deserved to be tossed in the trash where they belong, especially in a country like this.

I found it quite funny that people were required by the law to be patriotic...

You do realize it was simply the catchy name of the bill and had nothing to do with being 'patriotic' right?

Of course. But Bush administration named the act like that for a reason.

I believe it coincides with Bush's speech that "you're either with us or with terrorists."
