Default What did I do wrong now?!?!

I bought Medieval Total War and and Kingdoms expansion off of Steam. I than installed Stainless Steel and was actually able to get the Stainless Steel 6.3 main screen. I only had the option though of late era campaign, there is no early era campaign offered at all. To boot, when I click on the late era campaign it says, "Please select an item from the list.'' but it gives no option.

Honestly, it would be so nice to have a one click mod installer for games bought through steam. I swore I did the install proocess correctly. What's the deal?

First off I'm missing the info which mirror you used, which installer, which steam technique (what you did to make SS6.3 run with steam).
I'm just guessing you used the alternative one (mirror 4). If you used the alternative one but only installed from one exe then your install is incomplete.
If your Stainless Steel folder is roughly 5gb-6gb big then use this tool SS6.3_installation_patcher_v.2.5.exe and report back. Note that it will overwrite the batfile you might have created, depending on the technique you used....

I'm sure you are aware but as this is a free mod without affiliation with steam you really have to ask your steam support for something like that. Don't get your hopes up they still owe me for the hours I spent troubleshooting steam users

And finally : Moved to bug reports / tech help.

go to med2 directory>mods>SS6.3> open SS_setup, select ur era and options, try this AGAIN, and see what it says, if it still doesn't work, let us know

most likely steam's fault, but hey doesn't hurt to try..

Can I use the alternate number #2 method which has me rename a folder "americas" for example, and then rename the SS 6.3 folder as "americas"?

    I used this download:

    A."6 Part" Download:
Installer/Setup SS6.3.exe (3mb, needs all of the following 5 parts in the same folder to work)
    SS 6.3 Part 1: MegaUpload (596mb)
    SS 6.3 Part 2: MegaUpload (599mb)
    SS 6.3 Part 3: MegaUpload (599mb)
    SS 6.3 Part 4: MegaUpload (599mb)
    SS 6.3 Part 5: MegaUpload (66mb)

So it's not the install. Doublecheck that you did everything as instructed in Running Stainless Steel with Steam

2- Create a folder called "backup" and place the "launcher.exe" in that
    3- Rename the "kingdoms.exe" to "launcher.exe"
4- now go to your "Steam Games" list and right click kingdoms, select "properties" and then "set launch options"
5- In the box that appears paste @mods\SS6.3\default.cfg
6-Now save that and go back to your games list, click on kingdoms then launch, it should bypass the launcher and take you straight to the mod.

always launch your game from Steam. Do not use the 6.3 icon.

Hmm...the method you provided is the one I originally used,

1- In the m2tw folder you should see 3 exes. "medieval2.exe", "kingdoms.exe" and "launcher.exe" (should be steam/steamapps/common/medieval ii total war/)
2- Create a folder called "backup" and place the "launcher.exe" in that

The download site I posted included everything correct?

Perhaps use the SS 6.2 version and this install method which seems more simpler.

For other Stainless Steel versions use

    1. Install the mod as instructed.
    2. Open Steam/Steamapps/Common/Medieval II Total War/mods. There you will find all your installed Kingdoms campaigns as well as the Stainless Steel modfolder.
    3. Edit the name of one of the Kingdoms folders (americas, brittannia, crusades, teutonic), preferably your least favorite campaign. The new name doesn't have to be anything specific.
    4. Change the name of the Stainless Steel folder to the former name of the Kingdoms folder you just edited. For example, if you edited the americas folder, the Stainless Steel folder should be named americas.
    5. Select the appropriate campaign from the steam menu. If you renamed the Third_Age folder to americas, select the americas campaign. If you named it crusades, select the crusades campaign, and so on.
    6. Steam will now launch the mod.
    Enjoy Stainless Steel !

If you switch methods, remember that you have to reverse any steps you did from the first one.
If you have yet to try out any of the methods, then that is your problem. You can try both, but the one I quoted is the recommended one.

Yes, and if your Stainless Steel folder is roughly 5gb-6gb big then you should have everything. It's down to config, I can't help much beyond this point as I don't have steam. Try the methods in the steam post and if you run into problems post, others more familiar will be able to help out.

Sorry I cant help, but I will say, please stop using Steam. Online distribution and activation has killed PC gaming for me, and is obviously hard to mod. Supporting it so much is probably gonna kill game modding, and eventually PC gaming will die altogether

Buy the damn discs on Amazon, its probably under 20$, and you get the discs, and no problems modding anything

Just a side rant Do hope you can get SS up and running! Fun mod

is it possible if someone could copy and send to me via email in a zip folder the imperial campaign information within the mod. i think i can resolve this issue since my ss_setup.exe doesnt work properly. when i installed the mod the option poped up for early or late campaign and when i hit late campaign it says SS_setup.exe has encountered an error. i can put the information sent to me into my folder and then i wouldnt have to go through the process of the SS_setup.exe.

you still need the ss_setup file for multiple reasons. Did you right click ss_setup.exe and click 'run as admin', also you installed ss6.3 first right, (with all five .bin files and the .exe) and then installed ss6.4? The missing files means just that, a bad install, most likely to do with steam vs. win7/vista vs. old games Bermuda triangle conundrum.
