Icon5 How to open rigid_mesh and rigid_models files?

    Hello everyone,

I 'm currently working on making the floating flags completely transparent (practically invisible for player).

The only problem i have are those two types of file extensions:

    - *.rigid_mesh

    - *.rigid_models

Which editor i need to open them?

I think, that one of the files that i need to edit is in 3D not 2D, so i have problems to make him transparent...

Making battle flags transparent is easy, because they are flat 2D objects.

I found a file called flagpole_diffuse.dds and it looks like 3D - a sort of "pipe" and on the top a sort of "ball". This object is displayed in ETW in 3D so making him transparent would be hard.

I heard of Python editor, how to use him?

I installed Python 3.1, but i didn't know which types of files he opens.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Yes, those are 3D Meshes.

For opening and saving those files you will need Ultimate Unwrap3D. The only program where exporters are existing for.

KnightErrant worked on one too, but dropped the development and so his converter is only useful for unitmodels.

    Thanks for quick answer Primergy!

Unfortunately - like you said -for free i could only download a demo without saving changes possibility....

I went to the official site of this Ultimate Unwrap 3D.

I think that the only way to get full version of this editor, is to buy it on the website.

Perhaps i should try the demo version....

My problem is that i think that some *.dds files in models.pack/rigidmodels/flags/textures folder are a full 3D objects, not 2D like normal flag textures....

So, i should maybe turn them from 3D to 2D to make them transparent??

Otherwise they still be visible on battlefield ( those flagpoles only ).

I tried to apply an Alpha Channel to flagpole_diffuse.dds file, but i wasn't able to make him transparent.

Any ideas how to fix that?

    Thanks in advance!

I downloaded a demo of Ultimate Unwrap 3D.

This program is very complex and offers many interesting options, but the save changes option is locked for demo version...

I opened a flagpole model and it was made in 3D. Deleting him makes a CTD, so the only way is to edit him.

It must be a way to make him invisible during the Empire Total War battles.
Maybe i should try Milkshape 3D - but i didn't know if he had a proper plugin of meshes and models ETW type.

    Hi p.jakub88

You need also Ultimate 3D Unrap, to convert the equitment file. Knight Errants converter only is useful for unitmodels( as primergy said) and there are sometimes problems. Only way to change it, is to buy full version of Ultimate Unrap or you have a guy with the program, who converts it for you.

dds files are pure 2D files...
They can be opened with Photoshop (with the nvidia plugin) or gimp.

With UU3d Full Version you can export a mesh to nearly every 3D Package you want.

Any 3D package should have the ability to flip or invert meshes, which would make them invisible in a game.

    Hi Primergy,

    Currently, i' m downloading a trial of 3DMax.

So you said, that making a 3D object's meshes flip or invert, will make him invisible?

I will try to edit in this way a 2D *.dds file. There are two options : to flip or invert.

I should try this one on flagpole_diffuse.dds.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Edit:

I tried to flip or invert image and flip and invert Alpha Channel, but the flagpole_diffuse.dds make the flagpole still visible.....

I downloaded many different 3D editors - 3D Max, etc.
Unfortunately, the only program i know that opens ETW meshes and models is a Ultimate Unwrap 3D....for 59$.

Finally i added some *.jpg fotos of work that i done to my models.pack.
