Default CTD on bribing rebel generals

Playing as Roman, I got CTD everytime when I bribe Roman-looking rebel general popping out in Italy. Is this a bug?

I've read that this is going to be fixed in the patch.

I don't know when that will be released though - it's being tested.

    Simple (temporary) solution: don't bribe.

Well it doesn't crash now that I know of, note the thread you just resurrected is a year and half old, so if you still experience this it would have been better to create your own with your own details.

I was playing as Rome and bribed my first general in RS2. This led to one of the few CTDs I have been able to replicate. I'll explain the situation to give you a picture of what happened:

As Rome, I was fighting the Macedonians. Mac had several stacks in the Greece area as they were fighting the Greeks States at the same time they attacked me. I snuck in and took Mac's last city while he still had several full stacks roaming around. All these stacks became rebels. I had been fighting the rebel stacks to get them out of my newly captured territories but this became boring so I decided to bribe a Mac army with my stack-o-cash.

The bribe worked but right after I pay the bribe the game CTDs. Luckily I saved right before doing the bribe so I reloaded and tried again. Same thing happened, CTD after winning the bribe. The Mac rebel army was standing in the region next to Athens if that helps. Instead of bribing that rebel stack, I tried another rebel army nearby. Bam... same thing.

I hope this can be patched. I hate missing out on the bribe feature simply to avoid my game crashing.

I have not heard that this happens with the new Patch, so hopefully it's fixed. The thing is, I really never could put my finger on why it was doing that. So if it's fixed, it got fixed by mistake. LOL

I agree; not fixed. In my case, any enemy general including free barbarian causes this and I also have all patches except 2.5. The CTD does not happen if the enemy force does not contain a named character and is led instead by a generic captain/centurion; in these cases the bribe works and no CTD.
"With a population of around a million, Rome (in Claudius' time) was a vast city even by modern standards. It is worth pointing out that during the early Renaissance the population of Rome was no more than fifteen thousand-- living amid the ruins of a civilization that dwarfed their own. It was not until the nineteenth century that the population of Rome returned to the levels it had enjoyed under the Caesars. That is eloquent proof of the fact that human history is not a tale of steady progress towards greater knowledge and achievement." Simon Scarrow
