    Default Guidance Needed

    Hey Everyone, I have been having a few issues with M2TW recently, being very fickle and lacking patience I've been giving up on my English campaign too quickly. I have a few reasons and I'd like some help as to how to solve my superficial problems with this mod (which is goes without saying is fantastic);

    1) That really irritating debate about the age script + devastation, I cannot for the life of me decide what to do, do I remove devastation (how much does this potentially affect the game?) and then enjoy a campaign with a reasonable TPY? or do I use Meneth's 2TPY and have ageing characters with working devestation but 900+ turns? (I still have yet to finish a campaign, I have a tendency to mod a game even before I've finished the vanilla version, don't ask why I did it for Company of Heroes )

    2) Everyone knows the english campaign is easy, if not the easiest and I intend to play on VH/VH with RR atleast, has anyone done any personal modifications or startegies as to make the english campaign much tougher, house rules etc?

    3) Last time I tried (last week) even when using Meneth's T2PY, Byg's GR didn't seem to work (crashed) is this the case for everyone? If it's been fixed, great, what are peoples views on Meneth's mod, does it add length but also accomodate for events and recruitment successfully?

    4) Byg's GR is a bloody tough mod to understand and use, who has found it to enhance their game greatly? I'm abit intimidated by all the taxes, the separated incomes etc, but I love the supply system and titles/monuments. I'm torn as to whether or not to use it.

    5) Finally (sorry about this long thread) I want my long pre-battle speeches back! :'( Does anyone know how exactly do I implement them, I tried deleting the 49+ one liners or so, but to no avail.

    So once again I'm sorry if you seem to keep repeating yourselves over and over again, but even though for a good while I keep trawling these forums for an answer, I can't make my mind up or do it right. Feel free to just ignore this post if it in some way annoys you, I have made the effort to use the search bar!

    Regards,

    Nathan

    1. Devastation can affect the game more or less depending on how and where you play. As the English it is probably fairly unimportant as for a long period of time there won't be many foreign armies camped out in your territories. Also- devastation is both a semi-historical realistic effect that enemies would pillage the countryside to feed themselves and also gives the player an incentive to leave their cities/castles and fight an enemy rather than wait for an easy siege. For some factions like CS, spanish factions, Poland, etc it can be a big deal as all the foreign armies can really cut into your income and make the campaign much more difficult.

    2. I've only played English campaign once(did first 10 turns once, then switched to this idea) but I had quite fun with giving away all regions except Caen and starting out as William had to with an invasion of the isles. Made for an interesting campaign especially the first 50 turns.

    3. No idea on Meneth's mod- haven't tried it.

    4. BGR is great even before you spend the time to figure out all the details. I get quite bored playing without it anymore in fact and while the income issues are difficult to learn as you have to basically adapt your playing style it adds to the complexity and overall fun of the game for me. The rest of what BGR adds is relatively easy to figure out on the current uptodate version as most of the bugs are gone and BYG has put alot of thought into the details and what the goal of the mod is.

    5. I saw this question answered in SS forums recently so if you search for it you can probably find it or someone else will answer it further on in this thread.

    I can only speak for the 2TPY. I'm enjoying it, but it does come with some potential drawbacks.

    -Twice as long for new developments. Mongols won't invade for over 200 turns, and it will take longer for new tech to arrive. But hey if you like a nice long campaign.

    -It doesn't double the settlement growth rate. So it only take around 50 years for everything to become citadels and large cities.

    -Factions expand twice as fast. HRE is nearly gone in my game and it's only 1150. France controls Germany. Romans have nearly wiped out Hungary and Venice. England has all the British Isles and the Moors have almost all of Iberia. Crusader States are destroyed.

    And only within the first 50 years of my campaign. Not even close to late game.

    So 2TPY might be more preferable for a late campaign. And I've only played it with RR, which seems to limit the insane growth and conquest to an extent.

    Personally the new bug of Devastation never vanishing is irritating me, but I too am at a loss of what to do about it...

    BGR should be working now. I, being the creator after all, find it to accommodate for events (they still occur in the same years) and recruitment (it's been slowed down quite a bit) well. Haven't gotten many complaints about things being too fast/slow, either.
    Personally, I don't enjoy BGR, but many people do.

    Okay, thank you all for your replies and discussion, having slept on the issue I think this is what I shall do;

    1) Play Meneths 2 TPY mod with Bygs (now I have enough turns to become familiarised with it?) and the mid-way AI (I think it's lusteds).

    2) I'm going to revert back to the original vegetation because of the amazing colonisation of buttercups (I think) throughout the world of SS

    3) Play an English campaign VH/VH but try and be slightly diplomatic with scotland whilst also focusing on rep and not just attacking everything with a pulse!, I've always wanted to be a second crusader state, i.e. have a strongpoint near the crusader states starting location, so mass migration here I come.

    And finally, just a question since I'm a little confused about forts, if I use menth's t2py mod with bygs, will the AI use forts? if so will they be wooden in battle and on the map or wooden on map and stone in battle?
    If the latter part is true, can someone point me into the direction of being able to change the graphics of the forts on the campaign map from wooden to stone, plus I'd like to make them more expensive and permanent.

    Thanks again everyone

    Edit: Okay just tried the following campagin;

    VH VH England, Savage AI, Instanople, Longer Assimilation, Byg's Grim Reality, Next Heir, 2TPY. After choosing the early campaign and selecting england and my campaign options, I opt to start it and it returns back to the main menu. I'm not sure what's causing this bug, has anyone got any idea? I ran the setup a second time and removed Byg's and all is working fine now.

    IIRC, forts are stone on the battle-map. For switching the model on the campaign map, you'll have to search around.
