    Lower taxes for starters, then build building that give happiness.

    I'v done most of the campain tutorial mate - and noticed allot of the options are not actually in the game;

    The only option for tax that i have, is to make a city not pay them, other than that i cant lower state taxes for higher or lower classes - just make them not pay it at all.

    I also cant research technology =/

    cheers guys

    The starting campaigns (Italy/Egypt) have a lot of options disabled, including tech advances, to save you complexity. But your tax rates always controlled on a theater-level basis; either you globally lower taxes, or you exempt a specific region. No finer grained control is available.

    Building structures take forever. Best way to improve happiness in the short term is to put up loads of militia. Each militia will give you 1+ repression (they get a policing bonus) depending on the region's population, and in large regions, it's more economical than town watch. If they do revolt, put down the rebel army and you get a temporary +6 Military Crackdown repression bonus as well.

    Until you get to the European campaign, where you can tweak your Justice Minister for global repression bonuses and research population-related tech, this is more or less the only short-term way to deal with unruly peasants. Long term, build theaters to crank up entertainment values and the government line of buildings to crank up further repression.

    The Egyptian & Italian campaigns are short & basically a race against the game clock, so you wouldn't have time to research even if you could. There is very liitle time to develop cities either, so just heal your units in a recently conquered province, top up your army with a few more units, & push on toward the main objective city - all other side objectives are strictly secondary to your primary goal. Never forget this.

    If you want to keep cities under the cosh, don't forget to garrison them with militia units. This will be come second nature for you in the main campaign.

    You should also set the middle and lower class retirement age to 60 or below in France, or face massive strikes!
