    Default Animations?

    Hi

Medieval 2 has always need good animations, but...
IRL I might have a splendid opportunity to get my hands on some really good and complex animations(from friends being educating within this field).

Animations could include the mace combat seen in the witchking's battle with Eowyn in the movies, The troll chieftain's battle moves against Pippin, Legolas's two handed sword combat and Sauron swinging his mace in The last Alliance.

Being a noob in this regard, I was told that animations uses different formats ect, so does M2TW requires some special animations?

Also, I would like to hear if anybody was intrested in working together around creating special weapons like the withckings mace etc, if I could provide the models with animations?

    Regards
    Fable

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Ja, jeg har arbejdet med animationer, og først vil jeg lige sige at det er ING svært, og kan nemt resulterer i en ctd
Men medieval 2 total War animationer er en .cas fil, så jeg ved ikke hvad der er specielt ved den? Det jeg er bedst til, er at få dem ind i spillet, f.eks
Hvad man skal skrive in descr_skeleton, ModelDB, EDU osv.

Perhaps you could help later on (håber jeg i hvert fald)

But I have a few questions to the TWC'ers about this possible project:

    1. Is there any paticular fighting moves from the movies that people here would like to see?

    2. And is somebody willing to help model the weapons (fx a dismounted witchking with mace and sword) ?

    1. The fighting animations of the Eldar from the Intro of the first movie. =)

The Witchking is already moddeled, so it's only his "mace" somebody's going to model.
Try to ask one of these:
    Yarrum
    Soul Repair
    Ain't promisin anything

Sorry, I'd love to help but my hands are more than full at the moment. You could try Soul_Repair, but I don't know what his agenda is or whether he'd be able to help you.

Yes M2TW requires some 'special' animations, you can't just whip anything up and toss it in the game easy peasy. So you may want to tell your friend to check up on any limitations before doing all the work.
You have a bit of practical experience in this field, do you know any deffinate limitations?

And another thing, apart from new animations to regular units, it would also be cool to give a general like a dismounted Witchking new animations.

But does anyone know if you can apply individual animations to special general, or are the hardcoded to use use the generic "swordman" animation?

Goblins leap on people when charging, Wargs pounce horses kick. Uruk hai headbut and kick. Nazgul knock people down and stab stab stab them like they did to the beds in the film. Trolls and ents crush people under foot. Units such as high elves need a drawing swords animation. warg proper running animation.

The elves drawing their swords like in the movie, at the start of the battle of the last alliance would be pretty awesome.
Another would be an animation which would be nice would be to make goblins slouch instead of standing straight, that would nicely distinguish them from other orcs.

Good luck on your project. Something like a morning star (ball and chain) should be easy to animate by simply adjusting weights, but some of the stuff in this thread seems a bit extreme for this game and would require completely new animations from scratch. It would require A LOT of time to make and tweak, and it still may not work right (or at all).

If you do manage to get some new animations working then I will help out with modeling and animating

There are a lot of limitations that I know of, too many to list. I'm sure others have found plenty more. I am not saying what you want to do is "impossible" seeing as I am a scientist and therefore never use that word. However, it will require A LOT of time, effort, and ingenuity to make it work with this game engine and look decent. If your friends want to give it a shot though I will help out.

As far as I'm aware, it's entirely possible to have a separate animation set for a specific unit. The problem is having a general use anything other than the default general animations.

No, I simply think you are going to make him like Sauron single unit.

Det kunne være for nice med nogle flere/nye animationer Fable!

    Håber dit projekt lykkedes.
