Default Looking for some advice :)

Ok, well I'm new to RTW. I've played alot of customs and Started the campaign, but have now been absorbed into the MP.

I introduced a friend to it, a while ago and he has favoured the Egyptians. Now, no matter what I've done, I get defeated. BY his chariots and Archers. ( My attacks normally destroy his frontline. )

I was just looking for some advice on your strategies for defeating an Egyptian army.

I prefer to use: Macedon, Greece and Carthage.

    Any tips would be useful!!

Firstly: Welcome to TWCenter. Secondly: Check out the MP subforum ( http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=549 ) as you'll get vastly superior advice, as only a few MPers hang out here. Thirdly: What money levels do you use, as that affects unit choice and upgrades.

Also, your three factions are Phalanx heavy, and Macedon has the best Cavalry arm of the three, so my *guess* (I don't play much Vanilla anymore, and no MP at all) would be that they're probably your best bet.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

I don't bother with mp stuff, but it seems that your friend is having a laugh flying around in chariots whilst youre using slow phalanx heavy factions and getting shot to pieces.

Get yourself some cavalry and go mash up those chariots their defense stats are feeble so it might be a winner.

Actually, Chariots tend to mash Cavalry - Chariots are only really vulnerable when they stop moving, which usually involves lots of infantry.

He could use a cavbox to take out chariots, though with those factions there's a better option. All three factions you've listed are quite well suited to fight Egypt. If you don't do it already, use the mercenary slingers that each of those factions can use. Take as many of them as your rules allow, with a unit or two of archers if you want for some fire arrows or to shoot Pharaoh's Guards if he brings them. The real problem is archers. Try to fight an archer war at the start, take upgraded g/g units and set them in loose formation. Concentrate on only a couple of units at a time and make sure to wipe each unit completely. Hope that helps.

At low money level Egypt is very hard to beat.
If you don't want to implement rules (like max 2 chariots) and your opponent knows how to play, you will have a tough time.

I prefer to use: Macedon, Greece and Carthage.
From this, I would use Greece.
    Carthage doesn't have archery.
Macedon's strength (= heavy cav) will do you no good against Egypt (chariots+phalanxes)

What you should do as Greece:
    - don't waste money on cavalry
    - buy mercenery slingers (regular slingers are crap, but mercenery slingers are good. They can hit chariots in cantabrian circle!)
    - don't buy Bodyguard/Spartans/Heavy peltasts (against Egypt at least)
    - buy regular armored hoplites (upgrade at least defense) or just hoplites (again, at least defense upgrade)
    - buy archers too

    lineup:

    _____BBBB_______
    S___AAAAAA____S
    __H_________H___

    B: bowmen (loos formation!)
    S: slinger
    A: armored hoplite
H: regular hoplite (to guard slinger + flank+ rear)

If you have money left, you can add cretan archers or additional hoplites.

    1. slingers attack chariots
    2. archers target enemy archers
    - if you can kill enough, you are fine because they lost their strength
    - their archers will not kill many armored hoplites from the front
    3. if his archers are depleted (no matter if you lost more) and chariots killed,
    4. advance with phalanx, you will win against Egyptians 1on1.
    (5. if you have slingers/archers left, run to the flank/rear, and shoot the egyptians to the rear/side)

    Alternate:

    Use Pontus!
They have chariots and phalanxes too

I'd be inclined to tell my opponent to 'man-up' and quit with the girly Egyptian nonsense. Use Carthage or The Seleucids and get some hairs on yer chest.

Do not give advice if you dont play it. Chariots rape all cav in a 1 on 1.

aside from your horrible lineup, your underestimating of Javelin Cavalry and the deluded idea that he will allow you to shoot him in the sides or that you can actually protect your slingers from the hostile chariots and armor piercing fast moving Desert axecav when you put them on the flank those arent bad tips. you should really leave giving tips to more seasoned players though.

Admitting defeat also works great as a suicide plan.

Gauls don't get Screeching Women - those are German units.

check the MP forum, your question has already been more or less answered. on another side note, phalanx units are some of the only infantry who can effectively deal with chariots. the only other alternative would be dense blocks of heavy spearmen. light spearmen 'can' work in a pinch, but don't rely on it. and urbans and legoionaries cant fight chariots to save their lives

    please, no.

Gaul, after Spain (then again spain does have slingers, but wtv) is considered THE worst faction in the game. and Egypt at 10k or 15k is THE most powerful faction in the game. foresters with their long range and their dinky little spears will do nothing to chariots or anything egypt throws at you.

Spain is decent. Carthage Cav, Bull warriors and Carthage early infantry.

Yeah, thanks for the input guys, I did post a thread after checking about a bit

Next time I play him will be taking the Greeks:

6 Armoured hoplites - 4 cretens - 4 jav cav - 2 heavy peltests...Rest will be spent on Defense upgrades for my hoplites...to stop them being mowed down, by those pesky archers!

Will see what happens, then will slowly go through each of the army types listed in both of my threads and hopefully ( If I win enough ) He might stop using Egypt, thinking they're pants! Mwuhahaha!

This comment makes me question the legitimacy of your prefix.

No one buys bull warriors. the only thing Spain has going for itself is the speed of its units. it only has medium and light cavalry but those Balearic slings are good enough to form a decent ranged core. the only thing about em really is the sub par inf, that imo would be more interesting if they were fast moving.

Just because someone has "Darth" in their profile doesn't mean he's a clan member. Particularly since Darth Revan is a character from the KotOR games.

I know that silly, its just that some people sweat blood for months to attain the same prefix and those would probably be able to give more accurate tips than "pick gaul and spam forresters"...
