    Default Mod compatibility with D2D?

Hey all, so stemming off the previous topic, my friend just got the D2D version of M2TW and Kingdoms and says he's got some problem installing a mod on it (the mod is the Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod). The mod installer seems to be convinced that M2TW and Kingdoms aren't installed on the computer and refuses to do anything. I'm not sure if he has similar problems with other mods, but I'm guessing it's likely for those which have installers.

Anyhow, is this the same kinda deal as with Steam? I haven't really had any experience with D2D Kingdoms. Is there some way to make the installer recognize game?

If KGCM has the option to bowse for the Medieval2 folder, do it that way.

I have not dealt with D2D so I don't know their setup but I would think so.

It's been a while since I installed the mod myself, but I want to say it does let you browse for the game. However, for some reason it won't even get to that step in this case. When he tries to run the installer .exe it immediately says "Kingdoms must be installed!" and shuts down.

I would look in the registry using regedit to find if Kingdoms is there and what version. KCGM maybe reading the registry. If it is in the registry, the keys may not match the dvd version but to me it should not make any difference. It should still find it.

Well, I just looked through the registry, although I'm not entirely sure what I should look for I searched for "kingdoms" and it's come up with the kingdoms.exe so I'm guessing it's there. The version is 1.05 according to the game's option menu.

The game is installed on drive E rather than C, but I figured that shouldn't be a problem since it's worked for me before. Also, he hasn't upacked it but I figured if that played a role it'd cause problem only after the mod was installed...

Edit: Okay, looked up all the registry files and they're definitely there, version is 1.05. Also tried playing around with them and setting "distribution source" to "retail" to see if anything changes but it hasn't. Interestingly enough, when I slide my Kingdoms CD into the drive, it doesn't detect the D2D M2TW either.

If he has Vista or Win 7, have you tried it with the UAC disabled?

He's got XP, might this still apply?

    XP, no.

Ask in the KGCM forum. If someone is still tending it, maybe they have an answer.

Already did Seems like the general consensus is to get a boxed version and steer clear of digital copies. Oh well!

Thanks for the advise anyway, have some rep~

It's been that way since Steam started selling it and mods had to come up with a new installer.

Have you checked with Stainless Steel or DLV? I know they have Steam covered.

Yeah, I looked at some of the possible solutions for Steam but apparently D2D hasn't been "cracked" yet in terms of how to run mods on it. Guess I had to find out the hard way

Don't we all one time or another. If you get it "cracked", please fill us in.
