Default How to Reskin Roman Units?

First of all, I love the game, period. Beutiful Campaign map, depth to the battles and characters, etc. but the only thing that bothers me significantly is the Skins of the Roman Republican Units. I know they are outfitted historically, and from that aspect, look incredible, but I want a more sense of BAD ASS feeling to them. Could someone please give a little tutorial, or tips, on how to Reskin the Units? I have little to none modding experience, so just a heads up if I cant 100% understand =)

    All help is greatly appreciated

EDIT: The units are bad ass, dont get me wrong, but I would like a more pronounced feeling, if that makes any sense =P

It takes a great art skill and a lot of time and work. If you have no modding experiance I highly doubt you could reskin all the units alone. At least not anytime soon.

is there any existing Republican Skins? I looked through those tutorials, big ol blocks of text, and I dont really have time to spends hour(s) on Reskining. Also, could someone post a simplified tutorial?

If both of those tasks cant be completed, I thanks for your existing help, and ill just deal with the Republican units till i hit the reforms.

So, by your own admission, you "suck at modding", and "don't want to spend much time reskinning".

= modding RTW is not something for you, you'll never have the patience to do any meaningful progress with such a state of mind.

Seriously, enjoy the skins of RS2, it's the most beautiful looking RTW mod; why on earth would you want to change them if you do not have the skill nor patience to do so?

Alrighty then, well I ment no dis respect, as i said, i love the mod in all its glory. I just wanted to know is there were any other skins i could just download. My lack of skill and time in this area of work wouldnt be worth the effort of seeing some slightly different Units. I guess ill learn to love those wolf bearing romans. =)

the only thing i'd like to change would be the Triarii unit. Rebel version has better looking shields to me...

well, I wasnt looking for anything specific, not to limit my options. I was merly casting the question out there, and a little dissapointed as to what answers i got =) Badass was just a term to cover any type of reskins out there. If said person found a skin that was deemed 'badass' then i would asume it would be a nice skin =)
But i think this thread should be closed, i cant mod the texts, and since no others exist, might just as well stop this thread from being a head ache.

    Thanks for everyones help though

No need to be a little harsh, I KNOW THOSE WOLF BEARING ROMANS WERE HISTORIC! If you read my other post, you might just of understood, instead of defending the mod blinding WHICH I ADORE =p We have resolved the issue that i cant mod and no other skins exist, and as the person above stated, only the second post was on topic, because people either cant get over the fact i might want to change a few minor things, and not blash the mod, giving them a need to post something that all the skins are perfect! WELL READ WHAT I SAID, NO DISRESPECT TOWARDS ANYWAY WAS INTEADED!

Ok there, im done venting, just to much 'misunderstanding' happening in the forums and life in general =0

    Hi Bud

There is a submod which switches the skins to the rebel ones and they look pretty cool if you are after a change!

Please look under RS2 Submods thread in the sticky.

    Hope this helps, Kind Regards

I could be wrong, but the only thing that really changes between the "rebel" skins and the "original" skins is the shield designs and, maybe, some minor details. This is particularly true for the Republican units. The rest of the units look pretty much the same, particularly the velites, or the wolf-skin units.

At the OP: Perhaps people are giving your hard time - apart from other reasons - because you don't really say what you want to change. Saying "I want the units to look more badass" doesn't really say anything, and makes it difficult to actually help you. Do you just want to change the shields or what? What do you want to "pronounce"?

Not to discourage, but texturing is quite difficult because of shadows and shading, etc. To do it well usually requires the use of at least two tools, and a lot of back and forth between these tools and testing the texture in game. When you see a unit in-game, marching and looking great, it can be hard to think that all that shading that gives the unit depth has to be added by a texture.

There are some you-tube tutorials that discuss game texturing, in general. You might want to run a search for those. I'm in the middle of working on textures for another game mod - for Oblivion - and I can tell you it's really, really challenging.

But it might be easier if you want to change something simple.

    Anyway, good luck.
