Joint Project Proposal: Napoleon's Battles

All,

Having watched the amazing documentary created on the Battle of Jena (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6f...ngl_videogames), I thought of a joint project.

Since we have such talented 'flim-makers' here on this forum, and with plenty of people to provide manhours and clips, why don't we all (as accurately as possible) create major documentary videos of the following battles as that Jena video did:

1) Battle of Marengo
2) Battle of Austerlitz
3) Battle of Jena (if anyone is interested in making another version of it )
4) Battle of Eylau
5) Battle of Borodino
6) Battle of Leipzig (I want this one the most!)
7) Campaign of six days in defense of France


We would each have co-ordinated roles (many working as the video footage creators, one as the editor, one as the software producer, and together decide on voice acting, sound and etc).

I know this requires long hours and we don't need to have all of the battles or could do it over, say, a year. It's just that, I think, we would do a great service to Napoleonic communities and we have the amazing graphics to do it.

*Also, I would love to use, if we can, battle indicators and tactical formation maps.

What do you all think?

Let's soon start assigning roles and choose which battle to start first.

We will need:

1) A historical research team to write the script (scene 1...scene 2...)
2) A team that gets the script and starts collecting footage
3) A team that gets the footage and, with the script, puts together and edits the film
4) A soundteam that adds the music and the narration (after narration from the script is given to those that'll read it)...we'll need native French speakers, German speakers and Russian (if any)!
5) A final touch-up team

Again, we don't need to make the battles that long (we could even get the battle to down to 5-10 minutes max).

So, who's willing to do what and should we start with Marengo?

I would like to be one of the players, if you are not against it.

^Propaganda, I'm assuming you meant to be one of the footage collectors...after receiving the script and collecting the videos.

I myself would love to be with the script team. Who else would like to do that with me?

I'm thinking each team would be 2-3 persons. Moderators, is there a way you could give us a file to organize our teams with??? That would so much better.

I suggest using NOW, not for bias reasons, but the Nanny always uses NOW in his videos for as he acclaims "The best visuals ever" and it would make your videos look so much better.

But I would like to join the team, if you want something 'modded' to suit your video likie textures or other visuals or what not, I'll be glad! Just PM me

And I would like to be part of the research and writing team. Currently writing and researching an article about the battle of Gettysburg and did one about Market Garden so......

Well, my rig is pretty strong, but not the most powerful. I think it's best if I leave footage collection to those that can get the best visuals.

MB, would you be willing to be a footage collector (with Nanny perhaps...that would be great!!!)? Also, let's increase formation ranks numerically so that battles look epic (and not like skirmishes). The video of that Jena battle should be our guide (and how those guys made it look so historically epic).

Why not start of with making a movie about Waterloo? Might get this project and its endresult the most interest you can get. From there go to the other battles. Others I would like to propose are Trafalgar and the Battle of the Pyramids. Campaigns instead of single battles might be interesting as well of course

I wrote a couple of graduate papers on Napoleon as well.

Let's not do Waterloo (since a movie about it exists and someone else has already done a 2 parter movie about it). Does Marengo sound good with you all?

Ok, so here's our first tentative project assignment...(for Marengo???)

1) Screenwriters: Erkli Pasha & Singleton Mosby
2) Footage Collectors: Propaganda? &
3) Editors: Mitch & Ulysses
4) Music and sound: Reign Terror & PvtGunny
5) Final Assembly: Marshal Beale & Nanny (per request?)

Undetermined roles: Clix, Oggie, others!!!

I suppose someone is already doing an English Narration?

I didn't think about the English narration. I'm a native American English speaker, so I wouldn't mind (unless we really want a British accent of English?)

Would it be possible for the forum management to create a folder with sub folders for us? It's going to be hard to just write everything here.
