I don't know how complicated any of them are to get them to cooperate with Steam, but some goods mods include: Europa Barbarorum, Rome: Total Realism, and the Extended Greek Mod (and RS). Check the stickied topic for more.
I beat back their first attack with ease. Properly employed, E's can be very deadly, deadlier even than P's and Z's, though they're not as lethal as Paula Abdul or Right Said Fred.

what kind of computer do u have? can u run RTW on max graphics on huge with very little to no lag? if so then RS2 and EB are 2 excellent mods for rtw.

EB is a mod that literally takes historical accuracy to the extreme and adds a shart load of new units, buildings and unit models to the game and the battles take a lot longer to fight which makes the battles very fun, however u need a rly good comp to run it because it is very graphic intensive and RAM intensive, on average it takes a couple mins for the game to load and 1 turn cycle takes maybe 10-20 sec however if ur computer savvy there is a guide to increasing performance for EB on the EB forums.

RS is a mod thats more like vanilla rtw but it has more than enough changes to distinguish it from vanilla. the first being that the unit models are very different but not enough that u wont know what it is. second is the campaign map, it extends a tad bit past the caspian sea so that parthia starts on the right of it and not below and above it like in vanilla other than that, theres not much difference in the campaign map, however, the map is much much bigger than in vanilla, heres an example to show u how big it is. it feature 0-turn recruitment so u can create entire legions in several turns, the units have insanely high stats, ie. hastati AFAIR has 29 attack and 48 defense and pila does 17 attack, the defense is mostly in defense skill so that the battles last longer which makes flanking important as it can kill units quickly. there are more features that i havent said but the best part of RS is that it has 35 historically accurate legions that Rome had in its service, these legions are all different from each other and u cant use untis from 1 legion to replenish another, however these legions look excellent and are very good in battle. link is above the spoiler tab.

i dont wanna go into RS2 much cause i only played it a bit, but i do know that its like a hybrid between RS and EB and that the battle maps are eye candy to the max and that the unit models are extremely detailed and great to look at, however this game will kill ur comp if it isnt good enough. ill post the link for RS and RS2 forums

wow, thx alot for that gr8 explenation of what the mods are about <3! seriously, i played vanilla for a couple of hours now, and i thought it was so bad compared to medieval 2 stainless steel mod,, i really hope these mods will make it better hehe, oh and yeah i got a quiet new computer, its quad core tho, and i guess this game doesnt support it, but i hope it will be fine anyway,,, btw, im using 1400x900 resolution, as i got a widescreen monitor, and all the text is rly pixly, is it just cuz the game is so old, or is it cuz i need to change some setting? :S thx in advance

The game is just too old. When you have such a superb computer you might not face much problems with EB or RS2. On the other hand i can remember reading threads that Empire or Napoleon:TW are running faster on multicore-PCs than the old game Rome.

Have not played RS2 yet, but the map looks big judging from the picture of Italy. More space between the cities compared to EB. But EB has an wider scope - the map features whole Arabia (and even a faction there - Saba) as well as the Indus river allowing some more eastern conquests (plus two more factions there) when trying to recreate Alexanders empire.

Eh, not really. I had a laptop from 4-5 years ago that could run EB just fine. It was an HP Pavillion dv9000 ... pretty good, but nothing too special, especially by modern standards.
