resolution in mtw2?

hi,
after reinstalling mtw2 after some time (year or so) im trying to get my resolution fixed.
when first installed i had a 1280x1024 screen where it was fine, now i have a 1920x1080.
i got several resolutions to choose from in ingame options, ranging from 1024x800 to 1920x1080 but it seems its all 1280x1024, doesnt matter what i choose. and it all looks very stretched when i got my monitor on 16:9, when i put it on 4:3 its ok (black bars on the sides of course) but still only 1280x1024 it seems. wide screen in options doesnt help either.
now i wonder if 1280x1024 is the max and more is not possible or if theres something wrong with my installation?
i got windows 7 and ss 6.1 mod.
some screens attached, but the screens dont show what i mean since it always takes 4:3 shots it seems.
its both the same in campaign and in battle.

im not a techie but graphics driver should play a role.try updating them and see if there is any change

i got geforce gtx 460 with latest drivers 258.96
windows 7 64 bit i forgot to mention above

try changing resolution manually from the preference.cfg file.you should look for campaign_resolution and battle_resolution.i hope this helps.remember to check read only before you try it

thx goro but i already checked that. in preference.cfg its correctly as 1920x1080.
its not that it wouldnt take my resolution in options. when i choose a resolution it keeps it but ingame it makes no difference.
i can choose 1280x1024 or 1920x1080 and it all looks the same.

but from your answers i suppose it is possible to get a higher resolution...like 1920x1080?

you should as your screen supports it.i got no other ideas sorry i dont know much about the settings and i didnt have any problem myself with that

Does the game really support anything over 1280 x 1024? No reason why not. The only difference I have read is the ui getting stretched because it does not resize.

Have you tried editing the descr_auto_optimize_options.txt(?)? The game is old enough it may need some massaging for the higher resolutions.

where is that descr_auto_optimize_options.txt? i cant find it in any medieval folder
the ui is stretched yes..and so is the campaign map and the battle map.
its not that much of a deal i must admit...i just have to toggle to 4:3 on my monitor and got normal 1280x1024, but i thought maybe theres something wrong with my installation since it seems i can only play in a stretched 1280x1024 version or switch to 4:3 aspect

The file is in the data folder. My old monitor will only do 1280x1024 max so what I know past that is what I read.

The file I mentioned is the same one RTW fans with large monitors have edited and even got it out 2560 x ? so it can be done but at least the ui will still be stretched. Nothing we can do about that.

couldnt find auto optimize anywhere in any data folder i got ron (yes i also used windows search function). i also searched in the forum here for the threads u may have referred too but couldnt find much.
anyway....thanks goro and ron for trying to help but i think i wont get it done better and its ok...ill just stick to the 1280x1024.
