Default Can I reduce the Rebel traffic mid-campaign?

I'm really enjoying my 2nd RTR campaign (this time as Sarmatians), but the Rebels-out-thin-air-all-over-the-place is not really 'added gameplay', it's just bloody annoying. Often it's a single rebel unit, easy to kill but Sarmatia is huge and money isn't easy to come by normally so waiting 4 turns to reach 1 small-money-sucking unit then have 3 more pop-up where I just left is ridiculous.

Can I alter this mid-campaign in some txt file?

On a side note: what's with Armenia? I've annihilated 5 full stacks that they sent towards my NE-city (no idea the name ...hehe) with almost no losses and they keep sending full stacks every 3 turns. They have cloning technology or what?

I don't think there is a tech fix for rebels. Put dissent down and try to keep it that way. And about the full stacks, what kind of units are they? If they are weak units, then full stacks are expected.

You mean dissent as in city happiness? All my cities are green, usually 105-180%. In fact, the cities are so good it seems EVERYONE wants them. Greece/thrace/illyria/egypt/macedon and even freakin pontus have been trying to take Tylis from me... lol. No match for my horse archers though

It's too bad there's no way to change the rebel frequency, I'm tired of playing 'chase the pigeons'.

Re: armenia. They just sent 1 1/2 more stacks so maybe they ran out of men this time. My job is to make sure they never go home.

About Armenia, I encountered the same in my Parthian campaign. Smashed away all Armenian resistance and besieged their last city. Had two spies around and I play with toggle_fow so I was sure they didn't have a huge army somewhere. A turn later, they pulled a full stack of phalanx, cirtian slingers and cataphracts out of the thin air. My army was outnumbered but not outmanoevred, so after defeating their cataphracts and annihilating their slinger they were no match for my troops anymore, but I still suffered heavy casualties mopping up their strong phalanx.

I heard something about changing the sm_rebel_factions.txt a while ago, but im not sure if it works anymore, i know i tried it and didn't really see much improvement. I think you have to go into the file and change all the chances to 0. but like i said i can't be sure if this even works

but one tactic i use to keep the rebels from bothering me is having diplomats all over my empire and just bribing them off, though its very expensive, so obviously it can't be done unless you have money (which is hard to come by with Sarmatia)

Yeah i recently just finished a Sarmatians Campaign and i was getting the same thing, but from Armenia, Thrace, and Macedon, and every once in a while Bactria would come along thinking its funny attacking me. I had fun slaughtering all their full stacks, and i never could figure where they kept pulling them from. Something i did to stop some of my problems with my enemies is sack their cities: Take it, kill everyone, get all the money, kill all the buildings, and let it rebel. After i did this a couple times it put a major stoppage to most of the full stacks coming at me, not to mention making a lot of money.

jeez it never lets up. 4 of the 5 rebels shown here popped up in 1 turn. I've got enuf troubles fighting Greek-never-ending-stacks-even-though-I-annihilate-each-of-them at Byzantion and other factions drooling over it as well than to deal with these goofs.

Also, I tried that toggle_fow command for the 1st time and noticed Gaul has decided to send naval ships to Egypt... . Rome has done diddly-squat and looks to soon become a vassal of either Carthage or Gaul...

@bello: this is H-c / VH-b. It's going pretty well so far I guess. Lots of tough battles that I somehow pull of with few casualties. I made it easier by giving Campus Alanni to Armenia because it's too much hassle to travel to the NE corner of the map and it was losing $2K per turn. Like the toads they are, Armenia delayed in garrisoning it 3x and it rebelled back to me loaded with various super-gold shield merc cavs. Not one to cheat, I reloaded the game twice before giving up and taking the uber-stack for myself

There is a fix for rebels and pirates!
But it only shows up in 1.4 and later.
You can change their spawn value from 10 to 80 that makes them 8 times less likely to appear.
The value is in descr_strat.txt in map directory somewhere.

Not sure you can fix it in the middle of campaign
