    Default TWC Historic Society

Okay, I just had an idea.

Basically, we have a gorup go and research a person in history, preferably a general of Monarch. We are to analyze their accomplishments and failures and decide what they should have done to fix where they failed. I think it would eb a great way to learn about key figures in history and also to analyze just what went right and what went wrong.

I think we could have alot of fun with this, anyone intrested?

I'm in. Some of the byzantine emperors would be very interesting to research...

As if my opinion mattered, i think its a great idea, seeing as i only have a lot of knowledge in certain areas of history, it would be great to broaden my knowledge.

your opinion greatly matters to me :original: .

Well this seems like it will be popular, any suggestions on who our first hisotrical figure should be, I would say Tamarlane, but majority opinion will win.(I can add a poll if we get some suggestions).

No. We should begin with Alexander, or atleast discuss about him vs. Hannibal

Yah, another Alex vs Hannibal is exactly what the doctor prescribed

I'd suggest something less ubiquitus and well-known than Timur... maybe a controversial figure like Guy de Lausignan? Or an even more controversial figure like Alkibiades of Athens? Or Robespierre (sp?) perhaps? Can't make up my mind.

    Bah, I nominate Lausignan, definitely!

    Now we need a poll..
    So far we have:
    Tamerlane
    Harold
    Alexander
    Lausignan
And some byzantine emperors, none mentioned by name as of yet.

Tamerlane seems to the most popular candidate at the moment with two votes ..

Richard III i guess, but my vote goes out to Edward the Black Prince.
Or, i suppose we could do it on Owain Glyndwr, Cromwell, Quintus Sertorius, Gui de Lusignon or Amalric I of Jerusalem, Hengist is always a good choice...then there is Agricola and Cogidubness.

EDIT 2: Or we could always do it on one of Englands greatest Kings, Edward Longshanks

Hmm, I don't think there really is enough information on Hengist and Horsa, seeing as they are considered by some to be mythological. And I think the Scots would really like to talk about Edward I.

Can I ask the following request to the TWC historians?

Could you please cover an 'article' over the Merovingian dynasty [Clovis I - 481-511] and its evolving into a Frankish kingdom, with Charles Martel and his son, Pippin, and more importantly, his grandson Charlemagne?

(Finally picked up something interesting in history-lessons, and I'd like to find out more, more then wikipedia can offer me...)
