Can you play as Scythia or Parthia?

I'm pretty sure there is a file you can edit to make unplayable factions playable, I'm just curious if this can also be done with XGM, and if so, how to? While fighting the Parthians, I'm realizing how badass elite cavalry units en masse can be...wouldn't mind trying it out.

Scythia and Parthia were made unplayable in the main campaign and given a provincial campaign where they're the only playable factions for reasons of balancing. Just click on Provincial Campaign at the main menu and you'll see a Scythia/Parthia campaign.

Hey, man, both of those Factions are fully playable as XGM provincial campaigns. As AI Factions both Scythia and Parthia have larger unit size (70), but when you play as a human player that unit size is a little bit smaller (50) to make those campaings more challenging.

I'm so confused. I thought Provincial Campaigns were small snippets of the main campaign with differing victory scenarios, hence why I didn't bother looking there. After looking in game, it appears as if the full map is utilized so I guess now my question is what is the difference between Provincial and the main? Seems like they're the same thing...

I wish I could change the 'Provincial Campaign' menu option to something else, but unfortunately that would probably mess things up for people with non-English versions of RTW.

provincial are the same map but offer different starting places and different victory conditions
massilia may be the greek faction but due to the starting position you fight rome, spain and gaul rather than macedon, thrace and indi greeks and due to the lack of sparta you wont get spartans until much later
you do however get more chances to train the greco-barbarian hoplite due to barbarian settlements

Ohhh, ok. What I thought the provincial campaigns were was way off, lol. Right on, maybe I'll check out the Scythian provincial then...getting kind of bored with my Greek campaign now that I know it's going to take forever to kill the Parthians with how big they are but it's a foregone conclusion due to the size of my empire.

there is the roman civil war which has a different map setup, it might be worth it to take a look at that one first
