It's incredibly difficult to comprehend the magnitude of it all...I can't even begin to imagine how small and insignficant we are compared to the entire universe. We are atoms - no, we are electrons in an atom in a grain of sand on the near infinite beach that is the universe.

The human mind can not really comprehend such distances.
We can understand them as math, but not at a visceral level. The average human rarely travels beyond a 30 mile radius, and even today we are still stuck in that 30 mile mindset.
"When I die, I want to die peacefully in my sleep, like Fidel Castro, not screaming in terror, like his victims."
My shameful truth.
That's why I love science
At first you're just thinking... oh, that's pretty.
But then you try to think about all those galaxies, so many lightyears away that we will most likely never even get 1/10000000 of the distance to a single one of them, and how all of them contain countless numbers of stars, each also lightyears apart from each other, each being orbited by numerous planets, which are in turn orbited by numerous moons...
And your mind explodes.
Yep, science is an awesome field.
