    Hey there,

I bought Empire Total War about 2 weeks ago and think it's great and all, but I'm wondering if I should get Napoleon also? At the moment, it's AU$40 at my local EB (which isn't too bad by Australian standards...), so I'm considering going for it. Is it that much of an improvement over Empire, or is it really all much of the same? Does it have more features? Are all of the campaigns from Napoleon's point of view, or is there still a Grand Campaign option with more than one nation choice?
Basically, I don't want to be buying just a slight upgrade over Empire.

Any and all advice is appreciated!

    Cheers,
Your friendly neighbourhood rhino (that flies)

You have two (very short) Napoleon only campaigns: Italy and Egypt. And then a grand campaign restricted to Europe with the five great empires playable: France, Russia, Austria, Prussia and England - there are some (small but good) new features. Well worth playing.

And this month the "Empire:TW-Gold Edition" will be released - too bad that you have already bought ETW.
Cause the Gold Edition includes both ETW and NTW with all DLC´s - the full experience.

Improved graphics improved stability greater diplomacy and features but yes in a similar time frame in regards to the tech used eg musket warfair but it is what ETW should have been but yes on a smaller scale which honestly the AI handles far better so i would say get NTW but thats personal preference.

If you like ETW then you will like NTW with its extra sparkle not perfect but a fine game in its own right(yes it is a great deal they are npow offering on both games and dlc via steam it would be one hell of a long download though and Australia near no one has a unlimited download internet package so well may burn your months usuage just getting them

Get the Imperial Edition. 10 extra units you can't get anyway else since CA haven't released them as DLC.

Thanks for the replies so far, guys.
So, I'm getting that the general consensus is that if I'm enjoying Empire for what it is, it's still worth getting Napoleon for the improvements?
I'll probably pick it up tomorrow...unless someone manages to convince me not to, heh.
And yeah, I probably should have waited to get the Game of the Year edition, but I never knew there was going to be one. Oh well!

NTW is smoother than Empire and slightly better looking, but is not as rewarding to play and not as much fun -- assuming you play Empire with a mod like Darth/DMUC. On the other hand if you like multiplayer battles, Napoleon is better.

I didn't know it was coming either, or I might have held off on my latest ETW. I own several copies (for LAN games), and I have also enjoyed NTW as well. They are different enough that I bounce back and forth between them (and go back to RTW and M2TW too). Enjoyable games one and all. ETW was a mess at the initial release, but the patches help significantly. NTW was much more polished at release.

I say wait for Shogun 2 unless you are a total war nerd. NTW is not a huge difference from ETW, it's more of the same thing.

I ended up buying the Imperial Edition anyway; not regretting it so far!

Great choice mate! I truly prefer N:TW over E:TW. Also if you're hoping to play more factions I recommend you download a mod for it

NTW is the more polished of the two, but I still find myself going back to ETW occasionally. It's apples to apples, but a red apple to a green apple. Enough of a difference in flavor to make both worthwhile.

Napoleon lacks scope. If they released mod tools and someone made an ETW mod for NTW can anyone honestly say they would go back to ETW?

NTW is far the perfect of ETW, best historical TW so far, much improved AI, great mods, some say it lacks scope, but I believe its perfect. The campaigns are great, fun, indepth, and really immersive. The European campaigns, about the same size as RTW's but not that scripted, some say it is, but I don't think it is, the only scripted part is optional.

Plus modding options are much bigger!

Defently worth the $40. I bought the Emperors Edition at EB for $100 amd don't regret a cent of it

Agreed, and the actual number of regions do not vary much from E:TW to N:TW.

NTW is the best. I didn't play M2TW nearly as much, & hardly botherd with ETW ( I got NTW before I got ETW ). NTW has a great tech tree, great graphics, great atmos - & I'm not paticularly enamoured of the Napoleonic era.

To reply to this thread - if you've just got ETW ( cheaply I trust ), I would recommend the Game Of The Year Edition, as it has ALL the available DLC so far for Both ETW & NTW.
