    Default Britannia

A new Britannia campaign has been added in version 5.9.13. At present the Britons are represented by the Gauls and they don't get any special units, apart from the Woad Warriors that are an AOR unit in Britannia. The vanilla Britons campaign always seemed too easy to me because they got such an easy, secure starting position. So I decided to start this campaign at the same date as the Julius Caesar campaign. The Britons have recently been unified for the first time in response to Caesar's two brief invasions of Britian, and the civil war in the Roman Empire has given them a unique opportunity to free themselves and Gaul from Roman control. The Roman empire is of course huge at this stage, but hopefully the civil war will keep the Romans tied up long enough for the Britons to get a start.

If you try the campaign, let me know what you think. I haven't had time to play it through myself yet.

"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

Painful seems to be my first impression. Three full Roman stacks coming over the Alps, Iberia destroyed and two southern rebel towns beseiged, Germania being really aggressive in the east too. I decided it'd probably be best to take Caledonia and Hibernia for the economic boost, but it seems all that'll do is waste time.

I've always preferred turtling, this seems to very much be a blitz campaign - conquer as much as possible as quickly as possible before you have to fight even bigger enemies.

Okay just download again. I'm not play seriously yet (just take a look at the map and play about 2-3 turn). But i feel it won't be too hard since the Roman is fighting their civil war. If i can united the island (and balance my income) i may have a good position just like in M2TW. Of course fighting post Marius army will be hard since they are more stronger Gaul roster

Maybe I'll disband some starting units.

Not sure if my javelin spam work or not

I´ve played a little bit of this British campaign (H/H level), and I have to say that it was a good idea to choose the starting date at the time of Julius Caesar. So far I have conquered Caledonia and I have fought mostly against the British Rebels. The Germans have been quite aggressive against the Romans in northern Gaul and they also sent a small invasion army to Britain that I destroyed quite easily. I have built a British navy (5 units) to protect the island for further Germanic invasions. There is quite a big Celtic stack in Hibernia, so it won´t be too easy to conquer. I play with a fog of war, so I have quite obscure information what is happening in continental Europe except Iberia is already gone.

ADDITION: I have reached the summer of year 41 BC in this campaign , but after that the game has crashed three times in the same situation when I have clicked the button and I have tried to enter to the next turn. My install options: BI.exe, fatigue, land bridges, minimal borders, no red line, reduced AI Bonuses, one hitpoint system, loyalty. I can´t see any particular situation on the campaign map that might cause this....

Also if you could let me know what your install options were that would be great. They should all be recorded in [rtw]/xgm/xgmversion.txt.

Yes it will affect the Caesar campaign, though until recently loyalty wasn't being activated properly in that campaign anyway, so the problem hadn't surfaced.

    Awesome, I'll download it now.
It's late here though, so won't start a campaign until tomorrow. What are the tweaks?

The Britons get a diplomat, spy, and a couple of boats from the start. Caesar's army gets a bit of a boost while the other Roman stacks in Italy are weakened a little. The Roman Rebels and the Germans also start out with an alliance. The aim was to have Caesar put up more of a fight against the rest of the Roman Empire, and to stop the Germans from expanding into Gaul immediately.

Version 5.9.15 is available. I've added a couple of Pictish units, and made a bunch of other small changes for the Britannia campaign, so if you are planning to start a new Britannia campaign it's worth getting. Assuming I don't find any significant bugs soon, this will be the last revision of the campaign for a while.
