Icon3 Earthquakes Designed To Destroy Stacks

This is the first time in my history of playing TW games that I have had enough money to create and upkeep the amount of stacks that I do in this game. I like to have one of every available auxilia legion and one of every numbered and named legion. So sometimes when I am not at war or trying to prepare for a war I will group stacks around a major city like Rome to retrain them and fit them with better armour before said war starts, however the only time I have Earthquakes are at these times. And as you may have guessed or experienced yourself the earthquakes only seem to take place where these stacks are grouped thus up to now I have had numerous stacks destroyed to a few men left in a cohort. 3 times I have 2,000+ soldiers wiped out, all the generals killed, not to mention the thousands killed in the city next to the stacks. Also this is rather annoying when the stacks are experienced silver chevroned legions.

Is it just my luck or is the game actually programmed to have earthquakes where there is a build up of stacks? I have also had a few enemy stacks at my gates when an earthquake struck and wiped out their army too.

(This was an earthquake outside of Carthage earlier in my campaign. Two stacks, two family members and 10,000 citizens gone, just like that. I think I have images of another time on a different PC I also use for this campaign of other times this has happened.)

Playing as Seleucid and everythings going well, Ptolemai are on the brink of defeat with only Alexandria left. So I had my king Antiochus II and my whole army stationed near Alexandria, ready to storm the city. Next turn they all got annihilated by one earthquake, one damn earthquake, and Ptolemai those damn greeks pushed me back all the way to Syria. I can tell you that these earthquakes aren't just bad luck, they're the spawn of the devil, ready to torment and haunt your dreams.

Bad luck I guess, I didn't even know there were natural disasters in this haha.

I agree with the guys above perhaps a sacrifice is in order. You know like a goat or a young maiden.

I've only experienced this once, and it was only on one stack, but it killed my faction leader.

I've had earthquakes in the regions I've held away from the action. Basically any stack in the open in the affected area will be reduced to a few units each with a small number of men in each unit. Quite often the general will be killed as well.

In my Pergamon campaign there was a storm over Crete and an army outside the settlement was treated in such a way. So, it's not just earthquakes. I've yet to see a flood though - I'm sure that's next.

    Edited:
The first time this happened was in a Carthage campaign where I was laying siege to Syracuse. The army had been there a few turns and I missed the message about a natural disaster. I'm quite sure it was Mt Etna erupting that caused the damage. I did not see any of the pyrotechnics that I've seen in other mods (or RTW) - the volcanoe was simply smoking a little bit.

I can also report losing a stack to an earthquake. It was outside Capua, on the way to fight in Sicily when it happened. All units remained, but were reduced to 1-20 men each. General was killed.

Personally, I love it. Doesn't happen often enough for it to be immersion breaking either.

[offtopic]I've experienced this 3 times so far, i'm not so sure its completely random/bad luck based One time during my invasion of Italy below the Alps, where it wiped out 4 legions and 6 barbarian stacks. Once in Spain, besieging the last remaining Carthaginian strong hold (with great pleasure i might add) and again it wiped out 3 legions and 2 Carthaginian stacks, including another one in the city itself. Once in Rome, while upgrading my legions. Let me to conclude that disasters do happen randomly, but seem to favor spots with large amount of army buildup, yours, the enemy or both. [offtopic]

Ye this has happened to me a couple of times but the most Ive ever lost is like 100 cavalry/people killed.

Thats also when i have a stack right next to a city where there is an earthquake too. It must be completely random.

I dont think anywhere in the world at any time has had as many army/earthquake encounters as you

    The gods are not amused.

Yeah, I've lost about 3 stacks to such disasters in my Roman campaign.
