    Default UN forgiving genocide...wut lol?

    http://allafrica.com/stories/201010060033.html

CLIFFS (for the lazy nobles of TWC)

-UN report shows massacres, outright genocide committed by Rwandan & Ugandan troops in the DRC
-Both countries threaten to pull troops out of Darfur and Somalia (Uganda is accused of massacres in Somalia as well)
-In panic mode, UN sec. gen. Ban Ki Moon rushes to Rwanda's capital to appease them
-UN now vows to tone down its report about the crimes in the Congo
-In the process, both countries are now totally immune from future scrutiny for any crimes committed in their controversial peacekeeping missions

What do you make of this? Seems like you can totally avoid sanctions by rubbing shoulders with the right people these days. Holocaust? No problem, just make sure you do enough peacekeeping hours to make up for it.

It is the corrupted UN, what do you expect??

In the same time, we have this.

UN peacekeepers and the army in DR Congo have arrested a rebel leader suspected of leading attacks involving the mass rape of hundreds of civilians.

The UN said Lt Col Mayele of the Mai Mai Cheka rebel group was captured in a joint operation in North Kivu province.

Between 300 and 500 people are thought to have been raped during violence in eastern DR Congo in July and August.

Peacekeepers were criticised for failing to stop the attacks, some of which took place close to a UN base.

It's no secret that the UN is incompetent.

Whatever the Ugandans and Rwandans are doing, I can't be mad at them, they're trying to build an empire in the Great Lakes region, maybe if they keep the UN quiet they can continue to grow into a major power and may one day subdue the Congo - now that would be a miracle.

Rwanda? I might be mistaken but isn't rwanda smaller than the size of New Jersey?

Don't worry, Rwanda and Uganda would counter eachothers since they don't really like eachothers.

This is a bit more descriptive of the UN's powers on whole.

There will always be negotiable "politics" especialy for somthing of this scale. Wonder what they had to give up to get the go ahead.

No shock really. It's disgusting, but then again, it's the incompetent UN.

It's already been said in this topic: the UN is a largely incompetant body when it comes to peacekeeping. Infact, is there anything they do well?

Only because the USSR made the mistake of boycotting the UN at the time it was decided that the UN shoulkd intervene

I guess the UN are better than nothing.

At least someone else is doing our job without complaining - though with not so much success, still better than nothing.

Indeed, their job is standing there and watch victims be raped and beheaded.
