    Default CTD in every battle

Yeah I got that. According to your answers guys I did everything correct and the game is running well.

So basically that mod manager desktop icon is where I select which mods in the game to implement as well as AI etc. Got that too.

I'm proud to say that so far without any submods added the game seems to be working well except 1 minor hiccup I just faced. I just had a CTD. I'm playing as moors. Went to attack an enemy FM near one of my Iberian settlements. The FM withdrew so I pressed the attack again on the campaign map. Choose to play the battle and the game crashed. Any advice? Is this a normal thing or a freak accident? It also happens to be the first battle I will play. The year is something like 1120.

I've noticed some other strange things. I had hired a unit of mercenary spearmen. When I finished with a siege, They were reduced 1 individual in the unit. I was going to retrain them and decided not to. Upon looking into the reduced unit I noticed that the upkeep was still 255 fl per turn even though there was only 1 man in the unit! What in the world is that all about?

When I come across any other problems I'll be sure to post them here, unless there is another sub forum more appropriate. I'll also find the sub forum for suggestions.

Thanks for the help guys you're team is quick and responsive!

PS: Just tried to pick up where I left off and redo the attack on that enemy FM. Same result. CTD.

PSS: Just tried to click on the faction info button on the campaign map to check the banners of Lituania and Norway. CTD. The exact year is 1124.

I'm using windows Vista 32bit M2TW Kingdombs Gold Edition USA disc, Grym Reality, Permanent arrows, Permanent Watchtowers, Savage AI.

You are already replying on the correct topic. I merged everything related to your battle problem here.

If possible, use the torrent or filefront mirror to reinstall this time.
With that you can forget about the alternative patcher and also eliminate your alternative installer download as a potential source (corruption on download, UAC hickups) for those missing meshes. The normal installer will scream bloody murder if a file is missing or corrupt, I don't know if the alternative one does that.

Uninstalled. Started with a fresh install. This time using the filefront mirror you recommended. Ran the setup and the config did it's thing. Now SS 6.3 is about 3/4 installed and I get a message.

"Please insert Disk 4 and click OK."
"If the files on the disk can be found in a folder other than the one displayed below, (My downloaded folder) enter the correct path or click Browse."

I just hit okay with "My downloaded folder" in the directory. I assume it must be there. I downloaded all from that mirror site.

So after I click Okay I get this message...: [The file "SS6.3-4.bin" could not be found in My downloaded folder. Please insert the correct disk or select another folder.]

What is this? Is something missing from the mirror download???

How does anybody get to play this mod?!

PS this is an edit...I may have just found the solution to the problem. That particular file seems to have been downloaded as a VLC media file. I'm going to get rid of that one and see if I can't change that when I download it again.

NEW EDIT: Okay I'm lost. When I try to download this bin it wants to be opened as a VLC media file. How do I change this? What do I need to open/save this as? With what program do I open it with?

Do you have a file named SS6.3-4.bin in your download folder? You can also download it in one piece from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9SQYCWSS if that helps.

While I can understand your frustration, understand that we can't ensure that everything works for everybody right of the bat Its not like you aren't getting help and bug reports aren't getting noticed, this is just no commercial operation. And to answer your question: I don't get to play this mod either. I spend my time here answering bug reports But others do get to enjoy it and hopefully you will soon join their ranks.

And when the installation gets ready to install this file. It says it's missing. How do I change this into a binary file so that the install is able to complete?
Did you run the helper program? You should now have SS6.3-1.bin, SS6.3-2.bin, SS6.3-3.bin, SS6.3-4.bin and SS6.3-5.bin and SS6.3.exe in your folder.
If you don't have the first 4 (SS6.3-1.bin, SS6.3-2.bin, SS6.3-3.bin, SS6.3-4.bin), run the helper program, it joins them from the SS6.3-X.zip.00X files.
If the SS6.3-5.bin isn't there but a similar file of about 65mb, rename it and try the install again. Or just redownload it but make sure to "rightclick file save as"
to avoid opening it (which saves the file to your temp folder and then tries to open it with vlc)

    Rename the file to what?

To SS6.3-5.bin. The only reason for setup not to find the 5th file is if its missnamed or nonexistant.
Maybe just post a screenshot of what you have in your SS6.3 download folder currently... and please change the display settings to "detailed" so that I can see the filesizes etc.

It did, in a certain way....

Please follow these instructions to the letter. Thanks. If you don't want to download from megaupload, download from filefront but make sure that the download completes. If completly downloaded from filefront, use the joining helper again after making sure that you renamed the SS6.3-4.bin you marked in your picture back to its original name SS6.3-5.bin. Under no circumstances should you have a SS6.3-4.bin before attempting either to download from megaupload or from filefront.

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!?!?!?!?
Everything is downloaded from the filefront. There are 11 downloads total as follows:
    1)ss6.3.exe
    2)ss6.3-1 1 zip
    3)ss6.3-1 2 zip
    4)ss6.3-2 1 zip
    5)ss6.3-2 2 zip
    6)ss6.3-3 1 zip
    7)ss6.3-3 2 zip
    8)ss6.3-4 1 zip
    9)ss6.3-4 2 zip
    10)ss6.3-5 bin (65mb)
    11)joiner helper program

All saved and not moved from the downloaded folder where i put them.
I start the joiner program it extracts the files from the zips and about 3/4 through the installation of ss6.3 in the mods folder of M2TW K I get this message:
"Please insert Disk 4 and click OK."
"If the files on the disk can be found in a folder other than the one displayed below, (My downloaded folder) enter the correct path or click Browse."

    WHAT DO I DO?!

PS: I just renamed the last file ss6.3-4.bin instead of leaving it as ss6.3-5.bin. Let's see if this helps if it does. A not has to be made in the forum containing the mirror links that the file has to be renamed.

Don't do that. Please execute the joining helper program, it should create all 3-4.bin files. Reverse the renaming.

There has to be a error message, else the joining helper program would have created 4.bin for you. I gave you an alternative link for 4.bin - did you try that?

Please answer that and if no, download it to your folder.

Alright. We've progressed from where we last left off. However now it's asking for disk 5. There were no links to the part 5 zips on fielfront. I checked the search at filefront and it came up empty for that part as well as the part 6 zips.

Now I still have the old downloads for the 3 part install from megaupload along with it's installer exe. But these are the files that possibly gave me the CTD last time.

What do you suggest? Do you suggest I find the part 5 & 6 zips (if so where?) or do you suggest I delete the old megaupload files and download them again fresh with their installer?

PS: Okay I found the 5 bin. Duh. Is it going to ask for a 6 zip or bin next?

Have you renamed the file back to SS6.3-5.bin like I told you?
Because that doesn't look like it. Either download
    http://www.filefront.com/17172669/SS6.3-5.bin
    or
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=O1MZI6OD
and finish your install after that download completes by starting SS6.3.exe.

I suggest you try to install and I told you earlier what the required files are - I didn't mention a 6.zip.
You should now have SS6.3-1.bin, SS6.3-2.bin, SS6.3-3.bin, SS6.3-4.bin and SS6.3-5.bin and SS6.3.exe in your folder.
Execute that SS6.3.exe. Then install the fixes from the release post. The instructions should be pretty clear, your on your own from here on.

After finally installing. And installing fixes. And attempting to launch the mod I get a message that prevents me from doing so. "Unable to locate Kingdoms.exe. Is Kingdoms.exe in your M2TW folder?"

I'm telling you if this has to do with me not installing 1 of the 4 expansions in the gold version I will kill as I've read somewhere in your forums that it's not needed to download any of these. Would this cause the problem?

    Your kidding right?
    Stainless Steel 6.3
    a Medieval 2: Kingdoms mod
and what you read was only half of it it seems...
Q: Which kingdoms campaign do I have to install?
A: Actually, you don't need any. In the kingdoms setup, you can just uncheck all the campaigns and the 1.4 patch will install automatically. You will have to manually move kingdoms.exe from the CD though. (for example from CD:\teutonic\main)
That means you will have to move kingdoms.exe from your expansion disk to your M2TW installation folder as a minimum.

The fixes and installation seems to have taken hold. Now I'm starting a new Campaign as the Moors. The real test will be to see if it crashes during battle loading screen.

Battle One: In the words of Borat of Khazakstan: "GREAT SUCCESS!" No crash before after or during the battle.

I'm telling you Bane...you deserve a medal for having to deal with me.

Just wait until I get into wanting to put in sub mods.

By the way the mod looks/feels great. Kudos to you and your team on a job well done!

Now I'm going to study up on how to do windowed mode and eventually hot seat.

    You ready for that? LOL!
