Icon4 Turn duration - Why do enemy turns take so long?

    ///

Hey everyone. Since TATW is released the time that it need for the enemy turns after i
ended mine has increased quite a lot. I wanted to ask how long your turns take and way
more important if anyone knows how to reduce/speed up the enemy turns time like it was
    in TATW 1.4.1.

    Here is what i get:

    Turn 10 | 01:18 |
    Turn 12 | 01:30 |
    Turn 13 | 01:31 |
    Turn 14 | 01:29 |
    Turn 17 | 01:24 |
    Turn 20 | 01:06 |
    Turn 21 | 01:03 |
    Turn 22 | 01:36 |
    Turn 23 | 01:46 |
    Turn 24 | 01:35 |
    Turn 26 | 01:27 |
    Turn 27 | 01:54 |
    Turn 28 | 01:52 |
    Turn 29 | 02:26 |
    Turn 30 | 01:52 |
    Turn 31 | 01:27 |
    Turn 32 | 01:23 |
    Turn 35 | 02:18 |
    Turn 37 | 02:04 |
    Turn 40 | 02:11 |

I will update that list every ten turns. (BTW - this happens when running a vanilla version of TATW)

So what is the reason for so different durations? And why is it so much slower than
in 1.4.1 where turns didn't take longer than a minute. Especially in the first 50 turns
of a 1.4.1 campaign the enemy turns took about 25 to 40 seconds.

Are those turn times depending on the strat campaign map graphic settings?
I already tried YassirX's script but this didn't change anything.

    My system:
AMD Phenom Quad Core 2,1 GHz | GeForce GTX 460 | 4 GB RAM |
A lot of disc space and a very clean and new system.

It would be great if someone of you could post some durations of their enemy turns
with turn numbers and their system specs.

I hope that we figure out how to reduce the turn times, like some guys did for SS 6.3.

The thing that has the most impact on turn duration is obviously the campaign script. I am beginning to notice it myself regarding my compilation which adds a lot of new features which are mostly activated through scripts. To give you an impression: vanilla 2.1 campaign script is 579kb, while I am now at 985, almost twice as much content. I remember playing RR/RC for SS, the time you had to wait between the turns just became unbearable at a certain point. It should be logical that TATW 2.1 runs less faster than TATW 1.4.1 since more content is being added. Just remove the garrison script (it has a lot of monitors, which have to be checked by the game every turn) from the campaign script and you should be able to notice a significant reduction of the time you have to wait between the turns.

This btw is the reason i quitted my last SS 6.3 campaign at about turn 500.
nearly 4 minutes for one AI turn was way too long.

just to add...that besides that when having more factions that vanilla
provides the waiting time is slightly increased due to the predictable wait of the additional factions' movements
but i agree with Lord_Inq tatw is runing smoothly to my system...have u tried
to defrag medieval ii total war directory specificaly?
game boster can do that...i bet there is a lot of fragments after a daily use for some months

Also check if you have a lot of background processes sucking up a lot of the CPU processing.
For Windows Vista and 7 press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up the task manager and go to the Processes tab.
Check through there to see whats using the memory. Even having a few windows open in Firefox can put a decent strain on a CPU when running a game like TATW.

Your specs definitely look good enough to run the gamer faster than it is, sure you got no malware on your system?

Because in the beginning enemy has less units and less decisions. It never took a minute for me.

In vanilla there are much more units, factions and decisions, and still faster than TATW, and look Americas campaign, there are invasions of full stacks and its very fast! I have also noticed that TATW is the most slower of all MTW games I have. If the campaign_script is bigger it makes the game slower.

Well, this is not so much about my system and if this is the reason. It is more about the reasons
that slow down the turn durations. Barons explanation and other things like that.

My system is clean. I do a lot of motion and video stuff with huge and many files. So I defrag every
four weeks. The last is 3 weeks ago. With Defraggler and the Game Booster defrag tools as well.
    both running over a auto-batch.

As well i don't have malware or useless tasks running. But sure these are all things that slow down
the whole PC performance. I gonna try some things and than list them up in the first post.

But if someone has other ideas ...!

Does game booster really have an effect i never really noticed that much difference. As for time taken for turns yes sometimes it seems slow and i think the game has frozen but it does finish after a few minutes.

And i have a decent PC certainly well about what's needed to Run MEII

Here is the evidence backing up my previous stated assumption about the length of AI-turns and the size of the campaign script. The results:

More factions is also causing the extra lag.

If anyone has not already activated this extra use of resources if using XP, then you should consider doing so, esp if your getting the CTD and MAF problem

This mod is lightning fast compared to others like SS. It's like 30 seconds vs. 3-4 minutes in SS, haha. Turns in Empire TW are pretty long too, so I was used to reading the newspaper in between turns, now I don't have to

With the processor you have you shouldn't have to wait so long. Maybe your virus protection is hogging cpu resources?

more ram , better graphics card, better cpu and ignore cpu moves option
