Every second battle crashes

I have been forced to abandon a KH campaing, as upon making my way into asia minor, every second battle causes a crash.
It crashes BEFORE loading the battle, every second battle, without fail.
Messing around has shown me that if I save just before the second battle, let it crash, load the save, and then load the save and fight the battle, I can proceed as normal- until another battle comes up.
Beofre you ask, =this happened BEFORE I started doing this, so I do not think it related to saving just before a battle.
Should i just say "screw it" and write off this campaign, avoid asia minor as KH from now on, or nuke it from orbit (re-install)?

See the EB FAQ and the Frequently encountered issues if you haven't already done so.

Check the main menu if the right version (1.2) is shown in the bottom of the menu, if not you have installed 1.2 into a wrong location. Did you include all of the fixes for 1.2?

Are there any mini-mods installed? Please run validateInstallation.bat and post your results here so I can check if your build is changed/corrupted.
As from your description the crashes aren't repeatable, try to switch to another sound source from the options, update your graphical drivers and check if there are FM's involved and if it crashes too if the script is disabled.
