    First, I am a quite "legionary nerd"

    I have tried such a long time to bring the legions back,as far as I know, "prec" is the key to let a unit to fire only before charge. I also set the unit class as "heavy".

    Here comes the buggy stuff, for month long whenever ai uses it, the unit fires before charge, and goes to the close combat...then stand still and confusedthey are just keep "aiming" but not fighting, while even the weakest enemy chopping them down easily.

    I even tried SPQR mod, but still, the great roman legions act like great rubbish.

    Have anyone notice that, I will be happy to call myself a "greater idiot" if you say that the issue has been fixed for year long.

    maybe set the ammo the unit has to 1 so that the AI makes he uses his secondary unit (melee) after the ammo has ran out?

    example from longbowmen unit:

    stat_pri 6, 1, bodkin_arrow, 160, 30, missile, missile_mechanical, piercing, none, 25, 1
    the ''30'' means they have 30 ammo, or can fire 30 arrows

    change it to:

    stat_pri 6, 1, bodkin_arrow, 160, 1, missile, missile_mechanical, piercing, none, 25, 1

    Well, is that the only solution?

    I dont want to be greedy, but even this method still causes problem, not so many ai troops can finish their "only" ammunition, which the buggy stuff almost certain comes back.

    When you set delays into negative ... Doesn't that mean that the action gets performed in the future??

    OK, joking aside, I don't think negative values will work. Have you tested and confirmed that they do? There is really a difference between 0 and -25?

    Also this 'thrown ap', what is it?

    @Ishan

    Well, because I am not sure the problem is a "text" problem, or animation problem

    @swagger,
    it is Xbai

    but I think that the problem exist in every mod you can find, even vanilla, just try to give a "prec" to a javelin unit and do battle with this unit commanded by ai.

    from what i've read, you just add the put that attribute on the unit's stat_pri_attr

    i still think that just giving 1 missile to your unit would automaticly makes them to switch to melee afterwards.. should work

    If the unit is under ai controlled, you will find that it will not finish the only ammuniation by many situation.(I don't want them to fire on me either.)
    and the unit will keep firing in close combat, which 100% causes the problem again.

    Nah prec doesn't seem to work no matter what.

    prec – This relic from Rome: Total War surprisingly seems to be totally functional. You add this to a missile unit’s primary weapon to allow it to throw one volley to weaken the enemy and then charge into melee, like the Legionaries of Rome: Total War.

    No no, it does work in that sense. If the unit is not bothered, it will properly launch one volley and then charge the enemy. That isn't where the problem lies. The problem is that if you attack this unit while it hasn't launched the volley, it will assume an idle stance and be completely bugged as your units cut it down.

    ah i see

    what about dont use the prec attribute but only add 1 missile?

    that way the AI will switch to melee after the 1st (and only) missile has been used..

    Right, this is the path I thought I'd take in the other thread. You basically convert the legionary into a javelin unit with 1 ammo. However the problem is that ammo is hardcoded to be at least 2, AND, making him a plain javelin unit makes the AI use him as such <-- which you have to work to fix.
