Default what do you think I should do now

    Two things
1-I have been doing a few test custom battles against the senate and every battle I have lost horrifically and I just cant seem to beat them 1 on 1 so do you have any tactics(even the cheap ones) I can use to beat its monstorsity of Uber gold chevroned armies

1-What should I do now I feel as if civil war is coming soon and I would like to know what I should do to aid my up and coming war, Should I expand into asia minor and initiate a war with the seluecids for they are weak and have only two full stacks worth of men, should i hang tight and just prepare for the oncoming onslaught of germania or should i press up and kick some gallic ass in northern italy so I can come at the senate from both sides

    Alright campaign
    Campaign sifficulty-m/m
    Faction-Brutii
    Year-209 Bc(had marius)
Settlements all of greece, macedonia, few cities in asia minor, sicily and julii died out so i have there starting cities and I am fighting gaul in northern italy,Got rome surrounded except corsica and sardinia

Also germania is breathing down my neck for they are kicking dacia out of there last few settlements macedonia is nearly dead, greece is dead and carthage is getting its ass kicked by the scipii that has finally expanded into africa.

I have no Idea how I am going to beat the scary black killing machines

You dont. lol 1 on 1 there is NO army that can stand against them. But using multiple armies you can eventually beat them. There are several tactics, I would use Elephants and Onagers to help widdle them down. Javelinmen work well also. Basically you wear them down and then hit them with a fresh army.

Hope this helps. The Idea was to make Rome a valued and costly Prize. After all Hannibal never took Rome, so it should be too easy. ;-)

There isn't a single army that can stand toe to toe with the Praetorians and win. They are so powerful they can even push back the mighty Macedon royal phalanx. What you need to do is to hit them with two armies simultaneously and sort of smother them until they chock.

You might want to take a General to Africa and hire some merc elephants, also don't be afraid add in a few extra light Auxilla into the mix as well.

Just weather them down, continually, the first battle is always the worst - not only your first encounter that counts but against a fresh army!

full stacks of auxilla cav seem to take them down fairly quickly... Only problem is low ammo suppily.

good idea. Although I have never faced them yet - I was planning something like lots of velites and a few cohorts to hold the line until velites run out of ammo.
That is for the first "softening" attack.

I would have to sacrifice that army though, I guess. Militia cavalry is possible to withdraw in time.

i beat the Senate once around the year 260 something. the cheapest way is to surround the city of Rome, they normally have their armies out and around Rome with only a small garrison to protect it. find a path around the armies, one that will get you behind them, set up forts to block their route back to Rome, while at the same time besieging the city with an army consiting of an art unit to take the city in one turn. once Rome falls the surrounding armies will become rebels...no problems!

Do any of you guys know how can i battle against praetorians with multiple legions that I can CONTROL, and not the AI?
Every time i tick the box which allows me to control the armies without the AI, the damn soldiers just waiting to enter the battle cuz i got all my slots full....
    any ideas?

You can't - only 20 units under your control at a time!

But course that's not playing by the house rules so it's not going to be as fun in my opinion. Me? i used lots of auxilia cavs to beat them, just pin them down with cohorts that encircle the preats then they're toast (at least some of them)

How are you dealing with their cav first? because their no push overs, also when you have free rein in the Prets rear how many men out of a unit of 200 gold chevron men can one unit of Aux cav shoot from the back?

Yes this wearing them down will work, but it is as unrealistic for a Roman force to be using such tactics as stomping on them with merc nellies(cheaper of course though).

I personally think some of those tactics are pretty cheap.I prefer fighting the Senate face to face, legion to legion:I just make sure I have more legions than they do! lol.

onagers with flaming missiles cross firing, with some units guarding each of your onagers's emplacement
that wear them offa bit, so that you can get them with a second army, bring 10 cohorts +a lot of skirmishers

I brought triarii/spear auxilia and killed their cav. I then brought cav and killed their archers! Then, with Rome under siege so they couldn't retrain (cav or archers), I used my legions and mobility advantage to kill them - by encircling. However, I took heavy losses!
