I think the question is Would I like to play as Illyria in XGM? To which the answer would be YES.
There's no way of knowing if I enjoy playing as them unless they're put into the mod where we actually can play as them.![]()
I would love to play as Ilyria!
i dont think there is many that wouldnt
"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"
I really like Illyrian guys![]()
Well, this would mean "sacking" a faction. Which one, that's the question. I have been great fan of the idea of introducing Illyria, but I can hardly see this happening in a short/mid term. I wonder if there is any chance to see Illyria in a provincial campaign in place of Roman rebels.
P.S. Good to see good old XGM still standing.
i believe rthe roman rebels is the best faction to lose
the only they do is provide a minor barrier between Sicily and italy
although it is a fun campaign to do it was intended to be unplayable so its not complete
all in all i believe there is no one here who would say no to illyria replacing them

not saba, saba has a unique positions and unique challenges which make them challenging and therefor fun to play as

Illyria as a campaign would be alright, but would need a lot of balancing. If they don't get swallowed up by Thrace/Macedonia/Indie Greeks, they'll probably expand into Gaul then get crushed by the Romans. I kind of like XGM how it is tbh.
i think i a good idea but i think i will be better to be a aliance wyth macedon and trache and attack the romans so thay raplace the rome rabels
Well, there's plenty of room to put in Illyria imo. We have independent greeks, independent gauls and the roman rebels...the rebels is a little more relevant historically but the indie greeks and gauls just seem redundant. I'd recommend replacing indie gauls with Illyria and reshuffling the ownership of their settlements as necessary. 2nd option could be to replace indie greeks, because they're fairly redundant too. I mean, if anything, indie greeks is all there was for the most part in 280 BC after Alexander the Great died...the only time the Greeks were unified was with the Athenian Empire from around 500-420 BC, and then later on in much shorter time lengths with the Peloponnesian Hegemony and Theban Hegemony before Alexander showed up. However, since we have a unified Greek faction, why bother having the indies? It's like trying to be historically accurate with one faction and not historically accurate with the other. Might as well get rid of the indie greeks so the little bastards stop blockading my ports.![]()
Out of the existing unplayable factions the Roman rebels are the most dispensible, but in fact all of them serve useful purposes.
(1) The Independent Greeks are the most useful. Without them it would not be possible to have all of the GCS provincial campaigns (Epirus, Syracuse, Massalia, Pergamon, Cyrenacia, and Bosporan Kingdom) which have become a big feature of XGM. In addition they also make it possible to have loyalty, and to give a realistic representation of the spread of Greek city states without turning the GCS into a super-faction the size of the Seleucid Empire.
(2) The Independent Gauls make it possible to have a Galatian invasion in the Macedon campaign, and of course make it possible to have the provincial Galatians campaign. Again they make it possible to give a realistic representation of the spread of Gallic peoples without turning Gaul into an urealistically unified and powerful faction. There is also potential for adding other Gallic campaigns like Britania.
(3) The Eastern Kingdoms serve a crucial technical role and support a number of the other campaigns. Settlements belonging to the slave faction always have a sub-faction type corresponding to another regular faction, and the units they can recruit depend on the regular faction they belong to. For example, a slave settlement that belongs to the Gauls sub-faction will recruit units (and construct buildings) that are recruitable by the Gauls. By having the Eastern Kingdoms, however, it is possible to give the faction its own unique units and areas of recruitment so it can recruit Indian units in India, Arab units in Arabia, and so on, even though there is no Indian or Arabian faction. It also solves a number of smaller technical problems having to do with balancing campaigns and weirdness with loyalist revolts.
(4) The Roman Rebels allow for loyalty for the Romans, and of course make the Caesar Civil War campaign possible. In future we may also see some other civil war campaigns (if you search for some of the old threads on this topic there were some pretty good ideas for other campaigns).
Personally I'd rather add new campaigns with the existing factions rather than rework and rebalance the ten existing campaigns just to add one minor faction.
You can't get rid of the Indie Greeks, then loyalty (for those that play with it) wouldn't work. I personally don't, but still.
